How Much Are Boat Rides On The Riverwalk

Shoreline Architecture Firework Tour

The San Antonio Riverwalk! (HISTORY, FOOD, & BOAT RIDES!)

Get all of the information on a daytime architecture tour, with an added grand finale: seeing fireworks on the lake!

Whether you depart from Navy Pier or Michigan Avenue, youll tour the main and south branch of the Chicago River before traveling out onto the Great Lake for the best view of the weekly fireworks display.

Pro tip: Dont forget your camera! Even though it is nighttime, the lights of the city offer perfect photo opportunities. Youll have your postcard-worthy photo in no time!

Depart from one of two locations:

  • Navy Pier Entrance, Polk Bros Park. GPS: 600 E Grand Ave
  • Michigan Avenue Bridge . GPS: 401 Michigan Ave

In addition to their architectural cruises, this company also offers an outing at sunset which allows you to enjoy excellent views of the city skyline.

This is intended to be a romantic cruise, so there won’t be a lot of historic details about the city provided, but you will have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine, a cocktail, or a cold beer.

Since this is a sunset tour, you might not get to see Chicago after dark, but depending on the time of year, it’s definitely a possibility.

Duration: 90 minutes

TIP: It’s worth noting that this company offers specialty fireworks and holiday cruises to celebrate important events.

If you’re visiting during the 4th of July or Christmas, check to see what holiday cruises they are currently offering.

Lunch And Dinner Cruise Discounts

In addition to the various night tours offered on Lake Michigan, youll also find a nice selection of dinner cruises as well.

Instead of focusing on the excitement of a fireworks show, this boat trip is all about enjoying a meal while you drift alongside the city and experience the skyline in style.

There are a total of 3 different ways to save money on lunch and dinner cruises in Chicago:

  • Group Rates
  • Military Discount
  • Free Drink

Although the discounts available for these services arent always big, even 10% – 20% off a cruise that costs $100 on average is going to be a pretty good deal.

Its also worth noting that the free drink offer from each cruise company is likely one of the easiest discounts to enjoy.

NOTE: This section lists the most popular dinner cruise companies, but there might be a few we miss which are sold through websites like Groupon and LivingSocial.

If you can’t find exactly what you need here, we recommend checking these discount sites to find a service that fits your expectations.

From street level you will find numerous signs directing you down to the riverwalk of San Antonio. Since it is located in the very heart of the city you will not miss them. It was also only a few minutes walk from my hotel.

The busiest part of the riverwalk is the almost square like flow of the river which is accessible from the streets of: Crockett, W Commerce, E Market, St Marys, Navarro and Pressa.

You can also gain access to the San Antonio Rivercentre Mall and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as well as HemisFair Park from the walk.

One of the highlights along the downtown river walk area are all the places to sit, eat, or drink, and watch the world go by.

The restaurants are adorned with wonderfully colourful umbrellas, and theres a wide range of dining options. This can make picking a spot challenging, so take a look at our section on restaurants along the River Walk further on in the post to help you decide where to eat.

Some quick tips though would include Casa Rio, which is the oldest restaurant on the River Walk, as well as Justins ice cream, for excellent ice cream!

However, the River Walk that passes through Brackenridge Park in the north of the city is only open from 5am to 11pm. The Mission Reach stretch of the River Walk south of Eagleland Plaza is only open from dawn to dusk due to it being a natural area which is home to wildlife.

Why You Should Go On A Riverwalk Boat Tour In San Antonio

This post contains affiliate links. Please read our disclosure policy for full details.

I grew up in San Antonio and have lots of fun memories of visiting the Riverwalk as a child and as an adult. The River Boat tours are a long-standing hallmark of the Riverwalk. I have been on the guided boat tours before, but it had been a long time.

My husband and I recently had a weekend getaway in San Antonio and spent a lot of time on the Riverwalk. We saw that the river boats looked new and updated and we thought it would be fun to check them out. Go Rio Cruises is the new operator of the boat tours and these new river boats are electric . We bought our tickets for the guided tour right there on the Riverwalk and only had to wait about ten minutes to get on the next boat.

The Riverwalk is over 15 miles long in total, but the tour focuses on just the downtown loop which is about 2.5 miles. The narrated river cruises are about 35 minutes long and your guide will share historical and cultural tidbits with your group while keeping things light and humorous.

Youll see some pretty impressive architecture as well as natural elements. But what struck me the most as we went through this tour was the unique angle that the boats can give you. Ive walked around the Riverwalk so many times, but even just being a few feet away from the sidewalks gives a completely different view. Its incredible!
