Visit The King William District
Just a 20 30 minute walk south from the downtown loop of the River Walk is the King William Historic district.
This area of San Antonio is home to a number of beautiful 19th century homes, which are constructed in a variety of styles, including Greek Revival, Victorian and Italianate.
Some of the properties are open for viewing, so you can visit inside them, or you can just enjoy a wander around. We can also recommend visiting the Guenther House, which is both a historic home you can tour, and a cafe/restaurant.

There is also a small heart shaped island on the river where weddings and photo shoots are held.
From street level you will find numerous signs directing you down to the riverwalk of San Antonio. Since it is located in the very heart of the city you will not miss them. It was also only a few minutes walk from my hotel.
The busiest part of the riverwalk is the almost square like flow of the river which is accessible from the streets of: Crockett, W Commerce, E Market, St Marys, Navarro and Pressa.
You can also gain access to the San Antonio Rivercentre Mall and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as well as HemisFair Park from the walk.

Eat At The Restaurants
One of the highlights along the downtown river walk area are all the places to sit, eat, or drink, and watch the world go by.

When Is The San Antonio River Walk Open
The River walk is open year round, 365 days a year. The majority of the River Walk, from Mulberry to Eagleland Plaza, is open 24 hours a day.
However, the River Walk that passes through Brackenridge Park in the north of the city is only open from 5am to 11pm. The Mission Reach stretch of the River Walk south of Eagleland Plaza is only open from dawn to dusk due to it being a natural area which is home to wildlife.

I grew up in San Antonio and have lots of fun memories of visiting the Riverwalk as a child and as an adult. The River Boat tours are a long-standing hallmark of the Riverwalk. I have been on the guided boat tours before, but it had been a long time.
My husband and I recently had a weekend getaway in San Antonio and spent a lot of time on the Riverwalk. We saw that the river boats looked new and updated and we thought it would be fun to check them out. Go Rio Cruises is the new operator of the boat tours and these new river boats are electric . We bought our tickets for the guided tour right there on the Riverwalk and only had to wait about ten minutes to get on the next boat.
The Riverwalk is over 15 miles long in total, but the tour focuses on just the downtown loop which is about 2.5 miles. The narrated river cruises are about 35 minutes long and your guide will share historical and cultural tidbits with your group while keeping things light and humorous.
Youll see some pretty impressive architecture as well as natural elements. But what struck me the most as we went through this tour was the unique angle that the boats can give you. Ive walked around the Riverwalk so many times, but even just being a few feet away from the sidewalks gives a completely different view. Its incredible!

Boating Along The River Walk
Go Rio and its fleet of colorful barges operate the boat rides along the San Antonio River Walk. The electric, eco-friendly engines hum quietly so riders can take in the sounds and listen to narrators as they cruise along the river. All of the barges are ADA accessible.
Tickets for narrated tours can be purchased online from Go Rio, then used for any public tour that leaves the docks. The tours run every 15 to 20 minutes on a daily basis from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting. At time of publication, tickets cost $12 for adults, but discounts are available for Bexar County residents, children, military members and seniors. Large groups can also charter tours with Go Rio, with the company offering private cruises for up to 40 people. Reservations need to be made in advance by calling Go Rio.
Sites showcased along the tour include a life-sized statue of St. Anthony, which Portugal presented to San Antonio, and the historic Arneson River Theater which Miss Congeniality fans might recognize from the movie. In 2018, the outfitter plans to offer other specialty cruises, like ghost cruises and yoga-class cruises.
