Ditto if you have kids who participate in sporting events or insummer camps that keep them in the sun for long.
This paediatrician-tested formula is mild enough to be used onsensitive, eczema-prone skin. It has no fragrance and does not trigger allergicreactions.
The consistency is thick though. And it leaves a noticeable white coating on the skin. On a positive note, it takes the guesswork out of the application as parents will know just which parts are left uncovered.
All said and done, this is not a physical sunscreen. It contains2.5% Avobenzone and 3.5% Oxybenzone. Making this more of a chemical sunscreen,in which some people prefer using sunscreens that dont contain theseingredients as the research on them is not conclusive yet.
If you would like to avoid these ingredients, I recommend that youcheck some of the other sunscreens in this list of best sunscreens for babieswith eczema.
The Banana Boat Kids lotion is also available in milder, SPF 30& 50 formulations.

Banana Boat Is Not Cruelty
No. Banana Boat is not cruelty-free. This means that they may test some of their finished products or their ingredients on animals or they may commission a third party to do so.
Some countries, such as Mainland China may require brands to test on animals before selling their products in stores, which also means they are not cruelty-free.

Should I Pick A Mineral Sunscreen
The short answer is yes, because it’s safer and also generally reef-safe. There are two types of sunscreen: physical sunblock, which acts as a barrier and blocks the sun’s rays, and chemical sunscreen, which is absorbed by the skin and protects it from the sun by forming a chemical reaction. To determine your sunscreen’s type, just look at the ingredients. The active ingredients in physical sunscreens are titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide, while chemical sunscreens contain other active ingredients like Octylcrylene, Oxybenzone, Avobenzone, Helioplex and Mexoryl. There are many, and some of them are patented.
Using a mineral sunscreen is generally recommended for various reasons: it’s immediately effective, more photostable, and there’s less risk of allergic reaction or other health issues. The main reason why I personally favor physical sunscreens is because they use ingredients whose safety is proven, and therefore don’t require any more animal testing. On the other hand, companies who make chemical sunscreens have a much higher chance of testing their products on animals, as they must come up with new ingredients and formulations.

Buying Guide For The Best Sunscreen For Babies With Eczema
The rates of Melanoma, which is among the most aggressive forms of skin cancer has almost tripled in the recent past, according to the National Cancer Institute.
So, its not surprising that paediatricians are recommending sunscreen usage for children as young as 6-months.
But parents who have children with eczema-prone skin, have theirtask cut out trying to find a sunscreen that suits their kids.
Chemicals are out of the question.
Anything slightly greasy might trigger an outbreak. Most sunscreenswill sting if applied on existing eczema rashes.
Overly thick and its a pain to apply and cover. Higher SPF ratingsmay be misleading by overpromising sun protection.
Whew! How then do you narrow down on the best sunscreen for babies with eczema?
Heres a brief buying guide to help you navigate through thelabyrinth.
Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreenbaby Spf 30

How To Choose Sunscreen And Sun Protection Products
People who want to get the most from their sunscreen should ensure their chosen product includes the following:
- Broad spectrum protection: This means that the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays, both of which can cause skin cancer and premature aging.
- SPF of 30 or higher: The Food and Drug Administration recommends choosing a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. However, according to the American Cancer Society , sunscreens with an SPF factor of 15 only filter out around 93% of UVB rays. SPFs of 30 filter out 97%, while SPFs of 50 or more filter out 9899%. For this reason, the ACS recommends wearing an SPF of at least 30.
- Water resistance: For water and sporting activities, a water resistant sunscreen can be a good option. By ensuring the sunscreen specifies how long the product is water resistant for, a person can be confident when to reapply.
The ACS advises always reading the label before purchasing sunscreen.
Sunscreens have a shelf life of around 23 years, and a person should check the expiration date before use as an expired product might not provide appropriate protection. The
The Importance Of Applying Enough Sunscreen
According to a study done in 2016 on human volunteers, many sunscreens fall short when it comes to living up to the SPF advertised on the bottle. Most of the sunscreen brands tested in this study are not cruelty-free. La Roche Posays Anthelios appeared to be the best performing one. I have used Anthelios before going cruelty-free, and can confirm it works really well. Out of the ones included in this study, two cruelty-free sunscreens made the recommended list: Trader Joes Spray SPF 50 and Ocean Potion Protect & Nourish SPF 30.
Another observation from the same study is that mineral sunscreen appears to be less likely to meet their SPF claim than chemical sunscreen. However, they do point out part of the problem is people dont use enough, and dont re-apply often enough.
Considering this particular study does not look at the potential cell-damage caused by chemical sunscreen, mineral sunscreen is still by far my preferred type. Not all mineral sunscreen lotions have been included either, so any conclusion about sun protection factors falling short can hardly be the bottom line for all physical sunscreens.
It does make pretty clear how important it is to use something with a high SPF, even if you dont think you need it. Aiming high on the SPF scale is great for two reasons: to maximize the amount of protection for your skin, and because we just never seem to apply the amount we really should.
