A: The title certificate is good for the life of the boat, or until the boat is sold or otherwise transferred, at which time the new owner must obtain a another title. The title fee is $27.50. This is a one-time charge.

The boat registration certificate is valid for two years from the date of issuance. Cost is based on the length of the vessel.

Watercraft Registration Number:

Watercraft owners must paint or permanently attach the assigned registration number on each side of the forward half of the vessel as high above the water line as possible. The number must contrast with the color of the background so it is visible and legible.

The numbers and letters in the registration number must be separated by hyphens or a space, for example: TX 1234 AA. Boat registration should be placed on the forward half of the boat on each side and be the only number in this location.

Texas boating law states that each vessel on the water of this state shall be numbered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter unless specifically exempted. The numbering system shall be in accord with the Federal Boating Act of 1958 and subsequent federal legislation.

Georgia law states that the identification number assigned to all registered vessels, except those documented by the United States Coast Guard, shall be permanently painted or attached to each side of the forward half of the vessel, and no other number may be displayed thereon. Numbers shall read from left to right, be in block characters, be of a color contrasting with the background, and be not less than three inches in height nor more than one inch apart. There shall be a hyphen or space between the prefix letters and numerals and between the numerals and the suffix letters. The hyphen or space shall be equal to the width of any letter except I.

Vessels that are already documented with the U.S. Coast Guard must register with the state, but do not need to display registration numbers as long as a hailing port and boat name are displayed.

Boat dealers and manufacturers may secure a special number for demonstrating or testing unregistered vessels. The number must not be permanently affixed to any vessel and it is not transferable.

Original ApplicationsThe requirements are a completed Application for Boat Registration Number Dealer-Manufacturer form with Dealer or Manufacturer checked and the applicants Board of Equalization account number and the original registration fee. .

Renewal ApplicationsA new completed BOAT 101A and the registration fee must be submitted for any dealer or manufacturer vessel number that is not renewed prior to midnight of the expiration date. A certificate of nonoperation is not acceptable

The application requirements for special use vessels are the same as for a dealer/manufacturer application. An example of special use would be a marina borrowing vessels from vessel manufacturers throughout the United States for use in movie productions and then returning the vessels to the manufacturers at the end of filming.

Mississippi boating law states that All sailboats and every undocumented vessel equipped with propulsion machinery, whether or not such machinery is the principal source of propulsion, using the territorial and navigable waters of the State of Mississippi, and every such vessel owned in the State of Mississippi and using the high seas shall be numbered.

Why Are Some Colors Hidden

We only allow certain combinations of specialty colors. Colors like Ultra Metallic, Reflective, and Fluorescent for example cannot be mixed together on the same graphic.

A few additional options are available when doming is enabled. This includes the addition of chrome mirror.

The identifying number may not be placed on the obscured underside of the flared bow where it cannot be easily seen from another vessel or ashore.

Pleasure Craft License Numbers For Hull

You must licence your pleasurecraft if it is over 10 HP and used for non-commercial purposes. There is no fee to licence your pleasure craft but it is necessary for marine safety and identification. In Canada, minimum 3″ BLOCK numbers that display your pleasure craft licence are to be affixed to the hull on both sides, as far forward as possible.
