History Of Marina Del Rey
Originally called the Playa del Rey estuary and inlet the Marina del Rey area has always been ideally located and rich in beauty and nature, catching the attention of many ambitious developers over the years. Starting in 1887, with M.C. Wicks who wanted to create LAs first commercial harbor. While Mr. Wicks ended up going bankrupt and didnt see the project through it was proposed again in 1916 and 1937, eventually losing to San Pedro.
Despite the loss, the desire to develop the area continued and thanks to the Army Corps of Engineers a proposal was submitted and approved to create a harbor. Its not 100% clear how the new name of Marina del Rey was chosen, but rumors state that then Los Angeles County Supervisor Burton Chace was behind it. The Marina del Rey harbor officially opened on April 10, 1965.
Today Marina Del Rey is one of the highlights of Los Angeles. Offering the beauty of the sea to all who journey there. Making it an ideal place to charter a yacht and see the sights. Wildlife, sunshine, and beaches galore. Its the ultimate charter spot for sun worshippers looking to experience the Marina del Rey waterfront.
Boat Rental Costs In Los Angeles
Compared to other sailing locations in the US, the prices in LA are a bit higher than regular due to the vast tourist interest and the social status of the residential community. Boat rental prices are not a constant variable though.
Pricing schemes range depending on external factors such as boat size and type, crew availability, guest capacity, pre-set route, onboard activities, add-on services, facilities, etc. For example, bigger fancier yachts cost way more than basic boats and catamarans for fishing and sailing.
On the sail.me platform you can book a boat that suits your budget and matches your expectations.

What People Say About Getmyboat
We had such a great time renting from GetMyBoat! I was a first timer and wanted to do something fun for my boyfriends 30th birthday with a few friends. We rented from Justin and he captained for us – he was awesome. The boat was great, and I couldnt have asked for a better day.
Great night with Captain Joe and crew. Was easy/fun and really great being able to photograph the city at night! The boat was cozy, and even had blankets for us to use. Would recommend Captain Joe and his boat!
Incredible experience. Sailed to Islas Rosarios and the captain knew all the best snorkeling spots. Anchored in a beautiful quiet bay for the evening. Sailed to see some friends the next morning and even got to do some heavy wind sailing on the way home. Awesome time. Seaworthy boat and a great captain.
This is a fantastic approach. I could not travel with a boat and be as ready for the water as is possible with Getmyboat.com. I now look at what’s available before planning trips. I get a boat, that’s ready when I am, and a local contact, without the hassle of dragging a boat around.

Went on a sunset cruise with a group of friends on an incredible Winter So Cal afternoon that did not disappoint. Valter and his wife Nicole were super accommodating and lived up to the hostess with the mostest saying. First, the catamaran is a beautiful 42ft vessel that had clean bathrooms, a big hang out area in the galley if you get cold, a nice outdoor lounge area on the back of the catamaran where we spent a lot of time living life to the fullest. The front of the catamaran has two nets where you can literally look down into the clear blue sea, take in that salty air and if you are lucky like we were you can take view dolphins swimming right underneath us. Our 3 hour cruise ended with a gorgeous sunset that wrapped an afternoon we will never forget. Thank you Valter & Nicole for making our experience first class. Cant wait to tell all our friends and come back for another voyage. Maybe Catalina next time!
