Do I Really Need Brakes On My Trailer
Brakes laws vary from state to state, but Load Rite highly recommends equipping your trailer with brakes on each axle. All state laws refer to the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating to determine brake requirements. The GVWR equals the combined total weight of your boat, personal gear and, of course, the trailer. Check the local brake laws with your DMV for the latest requirements.

Always Check Before You Tow
| Coupler, hitch and hitch ball are of the correct size and that all ratings match |

Removing And Reinstalling The Bearing Protector
NOTE: All bearing protector caps are designed to fit tightly into the hub. Take care in aligning the protector cap with the hub.
When Would I Want A Bunk Trailer
Bunk trailers are preferred where launch ramps are good, tides are at a minimum, and currents and wind are not factors. When adjusted optimally, Bunk Trailers provide good support for boat storage and require little adjustment once set for a particular boat. Load Rite recommends Quick-Slide® bunk covers on all applications where bunks would be in direct contact with a metal hull. This will prevent moisture from being trapped in bunk carpet fibers and possibly causing a corrosive environment.
TRADITIONAL V-BUNK AND CONTINUOUS BUNKTraditional V-Bunks are used on our smaller trailers and built to be submerged allowing your boat to float during launch and load. Continuous bunk models can handle much heavier loads.
AB BUNK TRAILERSAB bunk models perform like V-Bunks but can support much greater weight than wood alone. With the AB system, traditional bunks are mounted atop steel support tubes and can pivot left to right, giving tremendous hull support.
S.A.® BUNK TRAILERSS.A.® Bunk Trailers are a Load Rite exclusive. S.A.® Bunks combine the smooth articulation of our roller designed trailers with the abilities and characteristics of a conventional bunk trailer. Our self-adjusting bunk trailers give increased support to the boat with more surface area and can be adjusted to fit in a minimal amount of time.

Greasing Bearings And Hubs
Load Rite recommends you add grease regularly for best bearing life. Load Rite uses components that make adding grease a simple process. The trailer hub bearing cap should be metallic and will have either a rubber plug in the center or an exposed grease fitting.
To add grease follow these directions: Remove the rubber plug to expose the grease fitting. Apply grease gun nozzle to the fitting and add grease. Used, contaminated grease will flow toward you around the gun nozzle. Catch in a rag and discard.
-OR-
Apply grease gun nozzle to the exposed fitting and add grease. Used, contaminated grease will expel out the back of the spindle either into or atop the axle tube. If visible, wipe away and discard.
Both of these systems allow grease to be added without damage to the inner seal.
If your trailer came with bearing buddies grease can be added to top off to capacity. It is possible to overfill and damage the inner grease seal. To replace grease the hub must be disassembled. It is NOT recommended to replace the bearing covers on your Load Rite with bearing buddies unless they were original equipment. Bearing buddies are not currently used on any Load Rite product, and only appear on some pre-2005 small trailers under 1500 lb. capacity.
Inspecting Bearings And Hubs
CAUTION Leave the trailer connected to the tow vehicle with tow vehicle parking brake set and wheels chocked. Trailer must be on level ground.
To jack up your trailer, first block the wheel on the opposite side, both front and back.
Note: It is highly recommended that the following service be performed annually. Remove each wheel and hub. Visually inspect and replace the following items as necessary: bearings, bearing races, seals and brake components. Always reassemble with a new seal and retainer, repack with fresh clean grease. All work should be performed by a qualified mechanic.

When Would I Want A Roller Equipped Trailer
Rollers offer the ease of quick roll-off launching and drive-on loading*. Because our rollers articulate, they act as their own guide for centering your boat and are the ideal support system for those launching and loading in poor ramp or tidal conditions. However, not every boat can be towed on a trailer equipped with rollers. Check with your dealer or boat manufacturer to see what is recommended for your boat.

Trailering your boat can save you money and allow you to discover new water for boating, fishing or play. With a boat trailer you can store your watercraft at home, take care of maintenance and avoid any third-party storage, transportation, or maintenance fees.
How to know what kind of boat trailer to buy?
Major things to consider when shopping for a boat trailer are the size of your boat and where you intend to use the watercraft. Salt and fresh water have different effects on trailers as do sites with deep ramps.
- Boat trailers for sale will have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. To determine if the GVWR is sufficient for your boat, calculate the combined weight of your boat, engine, fuel, water, batteries, and gear. Add another 15-20% as a safety buffer.
- Boat trailers are available with single or multiple axles. For most boats under 20 feet, a single axle is sufficient. Single axles are easier to maneuver and less costly to maintain, but multiple axles can provide more stability on the road.
- Frames for boat trailers are made of steel or aluminum. Aluminum is lighter than steel and the best choice for boating in saltwater. Some steel frames are galvanized, which can cut down on rusting. Painted steel is also less likely to rust.
Are there particular concerns with purchasing a used boat trailer?
- 1.75 inch axle diameter = 1 ton weight capacity
- 2.375 inch axle diameter = 3500 pounds weight capacity
- 3 inch axle diameter = 5200 to 7000 pounds weight capacity
