Where To Get Boat To Statue Of Liberty

Reserve Vs Flex Tickets

Awesome Boat Trip To The Statue Of Liberty In New York & Crown Access

The first thing to consider is whether you want or need a reserve or flex-ticket.

A reserve ticket is for a specified time on a specified day. Holders of a reserve-ticket get to enter the security line and board the ferries at that specified time.

Reserve tickets are available for general admission and are the only type of ticket available for pedestal or crown access.

They can be purchased in advance on the website of Statue Cruises or purchased on-site .

If they are sold out or your preferred time isn’t available there, you can also get reserved tickets for both general admission and pedestal from Get Your Guide, which also provides onsite concierge service to help guide you and reduce potential stress.

One advantage of a reserved-ticket is that reserved-ticket holders are given priority access to the security screening and ferries.

But the disadvantage is you are set to a particular time and thus reduces flexibility.

Flex-tickets are also available for general admission, which means access to both Liberty and Ellis Islands, but no access to the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal or crown.

Flex-tickets allow you to come whenever the ferries are running within a certain time frame.

Flex-tickets are what you will get if you get your tickets through a tourist pass or through a bus tour package.

Statue Cruises does not sell flex-tickets.

The clear advantage of a flex-ticket is flexibility. You don’t need your travel itinerary set in stone.

Accessibility Of The Boats

Visitors who need assistance must contact the Ticket Office Manager as soon as they arrive at Battery Park or Liberty State Park.

Managers will ensure such visitors get ample assistance during the security screening and boarding the Statue Cruises ferry.

All boats are wheelchair accessible. However, they dont offer wheelchairs.

Statue Cruises personnel can help visitors on wheelchairs get off at the Islands and get back on the boat after their tour.

There are no handicapped-accessible restrooms on the boats.

However, Ellis Island and Liberty Island bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Great value and water experience on a summer day. We treated our 3 grandchildren to this 1 hour cruise to see the Statute of Liberty and it was our grandson’s 8th birthday. Captain Ronnie was tremendously generous with his time, and even allowed our boy to sit in the captain’s chair while educating him about the captain’s job and his experiences navigating the boat. He made the experience unforgettable for our grandson and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you captain Ronnie!

How To Get To The Ferries

There is only one way to visit the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Museum and that is by ferries operated by Statue Cruises and there are two locations where you can take the ferry.

The vast majority of visitors to New York City will take the ferry from Lower Manhattan , but you can also leave from New Jersey.

The closest subway stations are Bowling Green, which is accessed by the 4 and 5 trains, and South Ferry Station, which is accessed by the 1 train.

You can also reach the ferry landing via Rector Street Station on the N and R Train, Wall Street Station on the 2 and 3 train, and Broad Street Station J and Z trains.

You can also reach the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River at Liberty State Park in Jersey City .

This is the only way to get to the island, as private vessels will not be permitted to dock at either site.

Tip: If you visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in the morning from Manhattan, you should consider our 2 pm Lower Manhattan Walking Tour, or consider our audio tour version of this tour.

Where To Stay In Manhattan

Tickets

There are so many different neighborhoods to choose from when visiting Manhattan. Below are some of my top choices for a few of my recommended locations in the city:

Chelsea: If you are looking to be well situated between uptown, midtown, and downtown, then Chelsea can be a great option for you. You have highlights such as the Highline, Chelsea Market, the Vessel, and the Hudson River right nearby.

And if you are looking to head to Central Park uptown or the World Trade Center area further downtown, then you are just a quick subway ride away. Recommended Chelsea hotels:

Cambria Hotel | Hyatt House | Moxy NYC

Midtown: Right in the middle of the action is the midtown area, where you have the one and only Times Square, and all Broadway shows right at your doorstep. You are also within walking distance to the southern end of Central Park.

Almost all subway lines connect at Times Square so getting around should not be an issue. Recommended Midtown hotels:

LUMA Hotel | citizenM Hotel | Aliz Hotel

Tribeca: If you are trying to stay in downtown Manhattan, then I would recommend looking into the Tribeca area. Staying here and you will be just a stones throw away from the World Trade Center area, 9/11 Memorial Pools & Museum, and Battery Park. Recommended Tribeca Hotels:
