What Are The Drawbacks Of A Boat Club Membership

1) Limited Selection of Boats

When we join a boat club, there is this idea that one weekend we can take out a family-sized pontoon and the next, a luxury catamaran. The problem is that most clubs really only offer a pretty narrow selection of boats. Not only that, with most people having the same free time as in being off on the weekends, holidays, and certain summer months, then you may find yourself standing empty-handed.

2) Too Much Pressure

The problem is that once you join a club, you feel pressure to get the most out of it. The average annual boat club is $275 per month. If you dont boat that often or have a hectic month, it feels like money just is thrown down the drain and just another wasted expense.

3) Limited Locations and Blackout Days for Boating

While some clubs have locations worldwide, youre still limited to whatever places theyre in. For the most part, this basically keeps you stuck around the most touristy places. And those are only the biggest clubs with typically the highest prices. Freedom Boat Club, for example, is one of the largest boat clubs in the world, but most of their locations are in the US. On the other hand, smaller, more affordable local-based boat clubs may only have one or two locations that make getting the most out of the boat club quite difficult all together.

4) The Clubs Might Be Full

5) Cost

Nice People Good Boats Terrible App

Finding a boat across a range of dates appears to be a used case that the developers of this app never really considered. The app does allow you to search for an available boat across a range of dates but it does not allow you to filter the resulting search down to a timeframe that you are looking for. When you do a date range search you receive back a listing of boats organized by date. Each one is typically, partially available and you then need to click on each boat one after the other day after day in order to find one that happens to be available during the timeframe you have in mind. There is no way to further refine your search to show boats that are available in the timeframeYou are looking for. Its nice to have boats that are in reasonably good shape but I dont believe that management of this company has really considered the fact that in order to get out on their beautiful boats you have to fumble through this lousy app that could be made so much better!

Boatsetter Vs Carefree Boat Club

Like most boat clubs, Carefree Boat Club has an initial membership fee and an annual fee. These fees vary depending on the location and may even be monthly. According to Godownsize.com, the initial membership cost ranges from $4,000 to $6,000, and a monthly cost ranging from $140 to $300.

As you can see, the price of renting a boat can add up quickly. If you have the time to use a boat every month, you might get the full value out of Carefree Boat Club, but it wont be easy. By renting a boat with Boatsetter, you can avoid all initiation and monthly/annual fees! Just pay each time you would like to take out a boat, and you are all set for a fun day out on the water. With over 4500 active boats on our platform across the country, you can find the perfect boat for your needs.

How The Club Works

Members of the Freedom Boat Club pay a one-time sign-on fee, plus a monthly fee of $369, or $269 if you just want to use boats on weekdays.

The Free Press is unable to publish the sign-on fee due to the club’s corporate policy, but you can reach out to your local club for more pricing information.

Once you’re a member, you reserve a boat and it’s yours from sunrise to sunset, Dobreff said. You can bring guests, water skis, tubes and whatever else you want. For all intents and purposes, the boat is yours, he said.

Each membership comes with mandatory training by club captains, and each boat is fully stocked with life jackets. Boat club employees clean the boats, dock them and repair them. Members can utilize the boat club at every location internationally.

More:

The only extra cost members pay for is fuel. At the Harrison Township location, there’s a gas dock at the end of the river for boaters to fill up their tanks. At the other Lake St. Clair locations, the club tracks your usage, fills it up for you and charges your credit card. The boat club uses regular gas, so the price varies as it might when you fill up a car tank. Things like cruising speed and the type of boat impact the tank size.

Members can rent out boats as frequently or infrequently as they want, Dobreff said, and a lot of prospective members worry there won’t be enough boats to go around.

The 5 Secrets Boat Clubs Dont Want You To Know About

On the surface, boat clubs seem like a great idea. Instead of buying a boat, you pay a monthly fee and have access to a range of different vessels. The problem is that, in reality, things dont work out quite that smoothly.

Here are the top five secrets that boat clubs dont want you to know about signing up for a boat club membership.

App Needs A Lot Of Work

I hope FBC/the developer reads these reviews. Like another reviewer said, the club is great but the app needs a lot of work. How do you not include making a reciprocal reservation on the app? How did they not think of being able to text the club you have a reservation with through the app? Or include their club number. Its 2022, they definitely need to get their developer on it, us members arent always at our laptops or want to log into the mobile FBC site . Get it together soon please!

Boatsetter Vs 321 Boat Club

With 321 Boat Clubs fleet being limited to specific parts of Florida, this may not be the best option for everyone. With Boatsetter, you can rent boats across the country on any day of the week!

The Truth About Freedom Boat Club

The Truth About Freedom Boat Club (PODCAST)

I almost didnt do it

Growing up we always had a boat and recently Ive been itching to get one.

But then I started crunching the numbers

You need to pay for the down payment, monthly payments, registration, insurance, maintenance, trailer, and storage, among other things.

Plus, you only have one boat.

What if I want to take my kids out tubing, or go bass fishing, or get into some skinny water looking for snook and redfish?

One type of boat is not ideal for the variety of activities we like to do on the water

Which lead me to Freedom Boat Club.

Id heard lots of misinformation about Freedom Boat Club regarding their prices, the number of times you can take their boats out, etc., so Freedom Boat Club wasnt even on my radar for the longest time

But the price of getting my own boat made me reevaluate my options.

In this podcast episode, I have my man Alex Anchor from the Winter Haven Freedom Boat Club to help talk about the pros, cons, and misconceptions when it comes to Freedom Boat Club.

Im not getting paid by them and this is not a sponsored post, but Salt Strong is all about helping you make memories on the water with your loved ones and this is one of the best deals Ive done when it comes to boating and fishing.

Ive been enjoying being a part of the Club and I just wanted to share this with you in hopes of clearing up some misconceptions.
