Birthday Bonus For Georgia Boat Owners

Starting July 2013, Georgia residents who have a boat registered with the state can fish on their birthday as part of their boat registration fee.

Its a one-day bonus for the states some 300,000 resident boat owners. This offer from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources also covers use of some DNR shooting ranges, plus some other sporting privileges. To take advantage of it, boat owners just have to get outdoors.

The birthday bonus is a one-day resident combination license that not only allows Georgians 16 and older who own a vessel and have a valid, current registration to fish , it covers many other recreational opportunities, including fishing at public fishing areas, accessing state lands where a Georgia Outdoor Recreational Pass is otherwise required, hunting small game and feral hogs on private land, and using shooting ranges where a license is required.

The license is good for the primary boat owners birthday during the three years the boat registration is valid.

Boat owners must carry a Georgia ID, such as a drivers license, and their plastic vessel registration card to show proof of a valid vessel registration. Activities like mountain trout fishing and big-game and migratory bird hunting require additional paid licenses. Saltwater fishing requires an additional free permit.

Keeping Your Registration In Order

You went through all that trouble to get your registration in the first place, didnt you? You submitted all the corresponding forms, you applied for your initial registration, and you received the certificate. Now, going forward this certificate is going to be very important, for it will not only officially back your ownership claim over the vessel, but it will also serve as proof that you are meeting national boating guidelines and operating within the regulations of the Canada Shipping Act of 2001. Because of this, you need to make sure that you always have your certificate on board while operating your vessel. This doesnt mean that you should keep a picture of the certificate on your phone or even a photocopy. No, you need the official physical certificate on the vessel.

If the watercraft is titled, a properly assigned title must be used to transfer ownership. If the title and/or registration are lost, a duplicate can be acquired by the owner from any Secretary of State branch office. Is The Pleasure Craft Licence And The Pleasure Craft Operator Card The Same Thing

Transfer a Boat Title

The pleasure craft operator card is sometimes referred to as a licence, but the two are not the same. The pleasure craft licence provides each vessel with a licence number. The pleasure craft operator card is a form of proof that pleasure craft operators must carry to demonstrate their competency to operate a pleasure craft.

The card is the most common proof of competency. However, boaters can also demonstrate competency if they:

  • can prove they successfully completed a boating safety course in Canada before April 1, 1999 or
  • have completed a rental boat safety checklist for boat renters.

For more information on operator competency requirements and how they apply to you, visit the Accredited Course Providers Database.

Registering The Death Of A Sole Owner

Transmission by operation of law

Where the sole owner of a ship dies, ownership passes by transmission to the legal personal representative/s of the deceased, i.e. to the trustees of the deceaseds estate.

The transmission must be registered before the legal personal representative/s can deal with the ship. For example before they can transfer it to a beneficiary or beneficiaries of the estate, or sell it to a third party.

Where there is a specific bequest of the ship in the deceased’s will, ownership can be transmitted direct to the legatee rather than to the legal personal representative/s.

The following documents should be forwarded to MNZ:

  • a Declaration of Transmission made by the legal personal representative/s or legatee to whom the ownership is to be transmitted
  • a certified copy of probate or letters of administration
  • the Ships Certificate of Registry,
  • a fee of NZ$613.

Transactions are registered in the order in which they are received by the Registrar of Ships. The approximate processing time is ten working days from receipt of the correctly completed documents and payment of the fee.

A dealer or demonstration licence is a pleasure craft licence used for demonstration purposes only. This type of licence does not apply to any one pleasure craft. A boat dealer applies for a dealer or demonstration licence to use it on any of the unlicensed pleasure craft in the dealer’s name. Dealers must not paint the licence number on any pleasure craft, since pleasure craft owners must apply for another licence number once they purchase the pleasure craft.

Requests for a dealer or demonstration licence can only be submitted by post. Requests sent in by fax will not be processed.

Federal law requires a hull number on all vessels manufactured in 1973 or later. The hull number must be given on the application. If the vessel has a “CT” number , that number stays with the vessel and must be entered on the application.

If a vessel has a US documented number or a Foreign Documented number then that vessel is not eligible to obtain a CT Title. You will receive a CT vessel registration using your documented numbers.

Vessels eligible for titles are vessels with a model year of 2017 and newer, or vessels that were previously documented either US or Foreign. Documentation from the Coast Guard is required to show that the Vessel was and is no longer documented.

How To Transfer The Ownership Of A Boat In Tennessee

    How To Transfer Boat Ownership?

While transferring a boat in Tennessee is straightforward, it involves more than a financial transaction between the seller and the buyer. It also includes a series of discreet transactions between the buyer and the county, and the buyer and the state. One transaction ensures the buyer is paying the full sales tax due the state and county. The other transaction is the registration — Tennessee registers boats, but does not title them. Once the state processes the registration, it provides the registration document and the decals for the boat.

Tell the seller to write a bill of sale that includes the seller’s name, purchaser’s name, the boat’s hull identification number found the starboard stern — the right rear corner — of the boat, and the price paid for the boat by the purchaser.

Take the bill of sale to the county clerk of the county where you are a resident and request a “Tennessee Application for Boat Certificate of Number.” Complete the application and return it to the county clerk. The county clerk may require the seller to provide a signed “Affidavit of Non-Dealer Transfers of Motor Vehicles and Boats,” showing the fair market value of the boat, the sale price of the boat and, if the sale price is lower than the value of the boat, the reason for the difference.
