How Much Is Membership To Freedom Boat Club

How Does A Boat Club Work For You

Freedom Boat Club Member Stories 2

Boat clubs work by offering members access to a fleet of boats for a monthly fee. Members can reserve a boat to use without having to worry about the costs associated with maintenance, insurance, and boating education. Boat clubs allow members access to a wide variety of boats for a much lower cost than purchasing a boat.

What Are The Extra Costs

Fuel isnt included in the costs. Depending on the distance traveled and the current gas prices, most members pay $15 to $45 per outing. As a rule of thumb, most boats in the fleet will burn three to five gallons of gasoline per hour.

A transfer fee, if you were to want to transfer to another location, can be done for about $500.

How Can I Save Money

Groupon, from time to time, does offer daily deals for the Freedom Boat Club. For example, in the past, one club in Venice, Florida, offered a $149 trial membership. Check out these daily deal websites to see if you can save.

Be sure to compare more than one location. For example, in Florida, there are more than 10 locations, each offering its own pricing. While most will offer a quote via email, some may ask for you to come in. In some cases, it may be worth it to travel an additional 15 to 25 miles in order to save $50+ a month.

Promotions may be available, so it doesnt hurt to ask before committing. Some members have also had luck haggling on the initiation fee.

Check out Craigslist and eBay. There are times when members will sell their membership at a discounted rate. Since you do have to commit, often as much as three years at a time, some members simply dont want to make payments anymore and are willing to get rid of them at a discount.

Should I Join Boat Club

Joining a boat club will mean no more maintenance or seasonal headaches with your boat, no more slip fees, and no more driving a trailer around. So if your boat is already paid for, then joining a boat club may be an extra monthly cost the money you get from selling it may only pay for a few years membership.

How Far Away From The Marina Can I Take The Boat

Freedom Boat Club Cost 2019

Most boat clubs do not dictate the specific distance that you can take the boat away from the marina. However, they do specify how soon you need to return the boat. You should keep this timeframe in mind to help you decide how far out of the marina you can take the boat.

Some clubs allow you to reserve the boats in split shifts. This means that you may reserve the boat from sunrise until mid-afternoon, and someone else will reserve the boat from the afternoon through the evening.

Shorter shifts like these will keep you tethered close to the marina to prevent you from being hit with penalties for not returning the boat on time.

If you know that you want to venture further out into the local waterways, you should plan to reserve the boat for the entire day.

Benefits To Boat Club Fuel

While you may not be able to bring your own fuel, there are benefits to paying a little extra.

Boat clubs will take care of fueling the boat up for you before you ever leave the marina! Youll never have to worry about having enough fuel, and most clubs, particularly those with franchised locations, have their own fuel flow meters.

This allows them to charge you appropriately for the fuel you used and to adequately prepare the boat for its next reservation.

Smaller boat clubs that dont have access to fuel pumps at the marina may allow you to supply your own fuel, though. Simply check with the management to determine what facilities are available and what rules will apply when it comes to the provision of fuel.

How Many Boat Per Member

One of the many things that members want to look for in their boating club is exclusive usage. Some clubs do rent out their ships to non-members during slow seasons.

However, this can significantly impact how much boating you are able to do.

This is one area where you want to make sure you are getting what you pay for.

Fortunately, there arent too many differences between the two boat clubs in this regard. Neither of these companies rents their boats out to non-members. This allows you to rest easy knowing that the boat is more than likely available for you to use when you desire.

While both companies do maintain a private fleet, you should also know what the ratio is of members to boats. A higher ratio means that you may have to make reservations further in advance instead of making last-minute plans with friends and family.

Carefree Boat Club commits to limit its membership to ten members per boat in its fleet. While they do have fewer members and fewer boats, their boats are more accessible to members than those offered by Freedom Boat Club.

Freedom Boat Club has around 1,500 boats spread out across all of their locations. With more than 20,000 members, this makes the ratio of members per boat significantly higher.

It may require more advance planning to be able to use a boat through their service when compared to the ratios found at Carefree Boat Club.

Dont be afraid to ask questions of the staff at your local Freedom Boat Club location!

Split Your Membership And Save

Contributor: Carefree Boat Club of Southern Connecticut

Do you have a close friend or family member who shares your love of boating? Do you like saving money? We are willing to bet that you do! That is why we have created and are offering prospective members the ability to split their membership with a friend or family member. Two people sharing a membership allows you to save a substantial percentage of the cost of membership.

If you join with a friend or family member we allow you to split the costs of the membership any way that you would like. This is applied to every fee related to membership, including the initiation fee, monthly membership fee, and the ResNet fee. We do, however, ask that if members split the ResNet fee they pay it on an annual basis, as opposed to monthly.

All co-members in a shared membership have equal access to ResNet, our online reservation system. Each co-member has their own login credentials that give them access to their four rotating shared reservations. Reservations can be managed by either of the co-members. And management is key! We stress that keeping an eye on your reservations, and booking in advance, will give you the best boating experience, and good communication between co-members will facilitate proper management.
