How To Obtain A Vessel Bill Of Sale

If you are selling a boat that is currently in the national vessel registry, you have the ability to draw up your own bill of sale. There are online templates out there that you can print out and use, or you could design your own. If you go this route, make sure you include relevant details about your boat, the agreed-upon price, your personal information, and the name of the buyer.

For registered vessels, this process must be approached a little differently. You will need to obtain a Form 6 Bill of Sale document from Transport Canada and fill it out completely. This can be done by visiting Transport Canadas website, locating the correct PDF file, and printing it out. Of course, you can also save yourself a considerable amount of time and energy by working with us at the National Vessel Registry Center. We offer an easy-to-complete online version of this document, which can allow you to expedite the sale of your boat.

Select The Boat To Sell

You should find this step easy if you have only one boat to sell. However, sometimes, a seller will have to choose between multiple boats to sell.

Identify which boat you are going to sell if you own more than one. Take the time to educate yourself on the value of the boat and which is more profitable.

After you choose which boat to sell, the next decision is what will go along with it. Boats, trailers, life jackets, and fishing equipment can be among the items in question. The buyer will be able to choose whether or not to include these items in the sale.

    Purchasing A Used Boat Question

Hey folks,Quick reminder as it’s been years since I bought a boat. If buying a used boat, and seller is keeping his plate, do I need to go to the ministry to obtain a plate before driving it home? I am assuming MTO takes care of this still, correct? Will they ask for a purchase agreement? Just trying to figure out the logistics as I may buy one this evening but I wouldn’t have a plate in hand to put on the trailer. What is involved in this sort of transaction? Thank you very much!

If it were me, Id ask to keep the plate until you get home, then give the guy his plate. The trailer ownership will have a plate portion and a vehicle portion. The seller should fill out and sign the vehicle portion and give that to the buyer. The seller keeps his plate and the plate portion. There are all the trailer descriptors on that document, as well as an application to transfer. As said previously, if the owner does not have an ownership, have him get one.I would be suspect of a trailer with no ownership .
