Long Island Party Boats Offer Half

Spend a half or full day on the water with someone else playing skipper, fish-finder and first mate. More than a dozen party fishing boats depart from Captree State Park in Babylon in hot pursuit of fluke, bluefish or monster-sized striped bass in the Great South Bay. Others set sail all along the coastline, from Port Washington to Greenport on the North Shore and from Point Lookout to Montauk on the South Shore. Boats depart mornings, afternoons and evenings. Many require no reservations, but if you have a large group, be sure to call ahead.

Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery

Located on 87 acres in Bryan County, the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery includes 31 fish rearing ponds, as well as 3 Kid’s Fishing Event ponds. Donated by Henry Ford in 1936, the hatchery produces bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, striped bass, and hybrid bass. It has produced over 800 million striped and hybrid bass fry since the statewide propagation program started in 1968.

The Richmond Hill Hatchery recently completed a major renovation that includes a new state-of-the-art hatchery and regional administrative facility. The new hatchery building has the capacity to increase fry production by more than 25 percent compared to the old facility, meaning more bass for more fishing opportunities for anglers. The Richmond Hill Hatchery is the sole producer of Atlantic striped bass fry, hybrid striped bass fry and white bass fry in the state. There is no natural reproduction of hybrid bass in Georgia, and very limited natural reproduction of striped bass. So, the entire inland fishery of these two species is dependent on these efforts at Richmond Hill.

Long Island Sound Offshore Fishing

Fishing along the Atlantic is mostly done in boats, there are also some big stretches of beach that allow anglers to shore fish. Again, the top species are flukes and stripers. Both of these species can be caught by bottom fishing or casting and working lures, or live bait slowly along the bottom. There are size and number restrictions on both, and there are some closed seasons so make sure you know all the regulations before going. Again, your guide or captain can help you with that. Popular spots down the coast from the Sound are Fire Island and the Great South Bay near Jones Beach Island.

City Island Fishing Charters And Party Boats

City Island is part of the Bronx, NY. City Island is a small island about one and half miles long and half mile wide. City Island is located at the western end of Long Island Sound and it is south of Pelham Bay. The island has a pouplation of just under 5,000. Despite its location it still has the apperance of a small New England fishing village. City Island has several yacht clubs, marinas, party boats and charter boats. There are also many fine resteraunts and gift shops here as well. A visit to City Island is a good way to take a break from all of lifes daily hassels and just relax.

Sheepshead Bay Fishing Charters And Party Boats

Sheepshead Bay is located in the Rockaway Inlet. It is one of the the most navigable inlets on the East Coast. Manhattan Beach is directly to the south of Sheepshead Bay, with Brighton Beach in the middle and Coney Island to the west. Sheepshead Bay is a wonderful place to dock a boat, beacuse you can get to great fishing in less than 5 minutes. You can also be fishing the deep blue off shore waters in less than thirty minutes. When time is as important issue this is a factor to consider.

The Sheepshead Bay fishing fleet is comprised of about fifty boats, that are moored to the nine concrete piers along Emmons Avenue. Some of these boats take as many as two hundred passengers on fishing trips. The charge per adult passenger ranges from 24 dollars to 40 dollars. Most boats have a cheaper rate for children and seniors. Boats leave at six, seven, and eight in the morning, and at midnight. The number of party boats working these waters has been in the decline for the last 10 years. Parking is one of the biggest problems that face the customers of the party boats. Plan on getting there a couple hours early so you can aquire a parking spot you dont want to be left standing on the dock.
