How Can I Decide What Size Is Right For My Boat
Before buying a bimini, measure your boat carefully measure to determine the best-sized frame.
Length
Measure the portion of your boat that youd like to keep shaded. Keep in mind that the bimini tops usually cover:
- 5 for 2 Bow Biminis
- 6 for 3 Bow Biminis
- 8 for 4 Bow Biminis
Width
Once you know your length, select the midpoint of the area and use it to determine your main mount points. Keep in mind that width doesnt correspond to your boats beam, it corresponds to the distance between anchor points on the boats gunwale.
Height
Ideally, you should allow for 6 of standing height. This is not the height of the bimini top itself, but the distance measured from the floor of the boat.

How Are Bimini Boots Measured For Replacement
- Measure the width of the widest leg . Do this several inches below the radius of the frame where the frame straightens and becomes the legs. Be sure to add 3 on either end to accommodate the fullness of the frames that are stacked upon each other.
- Next, measure the entire circumference of the frames that are stacked on top of each other. This includes measurements of the fabric itself. You should not have to struggle to zip up,so allow a little extra.
- Another tip that will help is to know the circumference of the collapsed legs sticking out of the bimini top boot. Some of the boots on the market are too narrow here. Boaters have difficulty getting the boot zipped. If you are having one custom made, you can request that it narrows to your specifications around the legs which may help keep wasps out.

You probably already knew that you needed a bimini top but just didnt know how to install a bimini top on a pontoon boat. Well, this guide should answer all your questions. Much like any other DIY pontoon upgrade project, installing a bimini top is a lot easier than it seems. Just make sure youve got the right tools and perhaps an extra set of hands to make sure you get the job done safely and properly.

Proceed With Installing The Bimini Cover:
After assembling all the pivot brackets, proceed with the frame.
Installing a bimini frame is quite a tough job. With the help of another hand, you can do it quickly.
Place the bimini into the mounts with fasteners. It should be facing the front of the boat. After that, you can decide on suitable places for the hold-down straps and the bow straps. If the mounts are not placed in the frame, you will have to do it on your own. Then set up straps onto the frame to find the right place for them to mount on the boat.
After marking the strap eyes on either side of the boat, spread the bimini top down properly and drill and fasten the strap eyes right. Dont over-tighten the fasteners. The seam ends will tear down soon this way. Secure the bimini top properly by installing the hook in the straps to the right strap eyes.

Choose long life fabrics such as Sunbrella® or similar fabrics with a 5 year minimum warranty for your bimini boot cover. If the warranty isnt listed, Google the name of the fabric along with the fabrics warranty, and you should get the information back on how long the manufacturer warranties the fabric. Assembling Your Bimini Top
Step 1
Unpack all the parts and ensure you have everything needed for assembly and installation. Then, locate and assemble the two pieces of bow one by sliding the side bows on to the center bow. Line up the holes and insert the supplied screws tightening them as you go. Repeat this step for the remaining pairs of bow pieces.
Step 2
Locate the fabric top and remove it from the bag. Lay the top face down on a flat, clean surface with the frame pocket facing up. If the pockets have zippers, unzip them. Insert the assembled bows into the appropriate pockets. The jaw slides should be facing up. Zip up the pockets to close. If your top does not have zippers, insert frames entirely through each pocket.
Step 3
Attach the hold-down straps by locating the cutouts in the fabric on the front and rear pockets. Wrap the loop end of the strap into the cutout and around the frame. Take the hook end of the strap and pass it through the loop, pull tight. Repeat this process at each of the four cutouts. If your pockets have zippers, it may be easier to unzip them for this step if you find youre having trouble threading the straps.
Step 4
After the hold-down straps are attached, connect the eye ends of the secondary bows to bow one by removing the screw from each jaw slide. Flip the end of the secondary bow over and insert the eye end into the jaw slide making sure the holes are aligned. Reinsert the screw and tighten. Repeat the step with each secondary bow.
