Providing Answers To Your Important Questions
What is the best boat cover?
At Canvas Craft, we recommend boat covers based on how you’re planning on using, storing and trailering your boat. At the end of the day, the best covers are the ones that fit your unique boating needs, because quality and a perfect fit should be guaranteed already.
How much is a custom-made boat cover?
At Canvas Craft, our boat cover prices are based on the size of cover, fabric being used, and any customizations required. At a high level, you should plan on your quality, custom boat cover ranging between $600-$1,200. But know that certain boats hold higher cover costs.
Do I need to cover my boat?
Your boat cover is the best possible way to protect your time on the water. A quality cover protects against dust & debris and unwanted animals getting inside your boat. It also provides UV protection for your boat’s interior. So yes, at Canvas Craft we believe you need a boat cover.
Can I just cover my boat with a tarp?
While tarps can provide some protection, they are – in most cases – not trailerable, and usually do not protect your boat against heavy rain or snow. This, coupled with limited ventilation, which can cause moisture/mold/mildew to build up, makes choosing a custom boat cover the better solution.
How long do boat covers last?
Disadvantages Of Using Pontoon Boat Covers With Snaps
The only couple of disadvantages that may come with boat covers with the snaps that we can think of is:
- If there is a snap receiving an unusual amount of stress then the fabric may end of ripping right at the snap and that is a little more difficult to repair than an actual snap.
- If your boat doesnt already have the female end of the snap installed on the boat then you will have to install those through the boat and will have to place them at the exact correct location.
- If a snap does break free in strong wind or especially while trailering your boat then the snap can cause some pretty serious paint damage if you dont stop and fix the problem right away. Many people actually recommend removing pontoon boat covers when trailering to prevent this potential issue but you really cant help when a strong wind comes through your area.

Pontoon Boat Covers With Snaps
March 25, 2021 by Dan
Pontoon boats are your prized possession and must be cared for and maintained well. Weather conditions are one of the biggest factors that tarnish and blemish the appearance of the boat. To improve the life of the boat and ensure that it looks sparkling and shining, it must be covered when not in use especially while mooring. Covering the boat helps to keep it clean and dry by protecting it from rain, sun, dusty winds, and sometimes even snow. Covers of different types are available that may be bought with the boat itself from the manufacturer or aftermarket. Some companies manufacture pontoon boat covers with snaps that are easy to install and cover the boat well.

Advantages Of Pontoon Boat Covers With Snaps
Compared to conventional covers, pontoon boat covers with snaps are easier to use. These covers fit into the snaps that are installed on to boats generally in the gunwale area. The snaps might either be pre-fitted by the boat manufacturer itself, or maybe installed by a boat dealer who also sells boat covers. The number of snaps and the distance between snaps may vary depends on who makes the pontoon boat cover with snaps. The higher the number of snaps, the more tightly fitting and secure the cover will be. The distance between the snaps maybe as less as a couple of inches. These covers can be used for both mooring and travelling.
Conventional covers are secured with bungee cords that are wrapped around the boat to ensure that the cover stays secure. However, some part such as the ends of the cover will generally be loose and the cover will flap about with wind. This can be problematic as the repeated flapping due to winds may cause the cover to be abrasive and scratch the boat surface or even peel off the paint. The pontoon boat covers with snaps are not prone to flapping in strong winds as they are not loose enough to flail around and hence will not harm the paint. This allows the boat to be towed on the highway without damage as well as the perfect fit of these covers minimizes wind drag or wind flapping.

How Much Does A Boat Cover Cost

Just like every dock needs a boat, every boat needs a cover. When youre on the hunt for a cover, there are a few different routes you can go. Deciding on that route will determine the cost, quality and craftsmanship of your cover. Lets take a look at a few of these choices.
With OEM or semi-custom covers, your options improve but theyre still pretty limited. Unless youre buying a boat that already has an OEM Snap cover, youre pretty much locked into Storage or Mooring covers. Prices for these range somewhere between $300 to upwards of $700 $1200 . These covers will deliver a slightly better quality than the generic out-of-the-box cover, but not by much. The manufacturer uses better material, but still cuts corners to ramp up production time. Since OEMs are made for specific models, the fit for your boat will be much better than the generic. These covers will likely last somewhere between four and ten years, depending on exposure and the type of fabric used. Their warranties will often vary.
Custom Shop Cover
With all that said, you will see a wide range in price, anywhere from $800 $1800 for a 24 boat with a Wakeboard tower. Many custom shops offer warranties for their work. These help the cover to last longer, and can result in the longest life expectancy of 5 15 years.
Now, how you pick which fabricators to use is a whole different article.
