This Is Not Just Luxury This Is Mbs Luxury

First of all, think big. Think very big. Think enormous. 330sqm to be precise . One of the living room walls consists entirely of glass, offering a stonking view of Singapores famous financial district from the 50th floor.

And the amenities are similarly mind-boggling. Guests of the roughly £4,000-a-night Straits Suite can enjoy a 24-hour butler service and make use of an in-suite hair salon, karaoke lounge, jacuzzi, private gym, massage room and colossal living-dining zone with a baby grand piano. Even with all this, my highlight was the three toilets with in-built sensors so the lids automatically rise when you enter, saving your weary arms from any unnecessary labour. This is not just luxury this is MBS luxury.

What To Eat And Drink

Singapore: Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Beyond the consumerist delights, there are myriad options for treating your tastebuds at MBS. The complex features 80 different dining options to pick from, as well as 17 signature or celebrity chef restaurants .

We were lucky enough to sample some of those signature options and will run you through some of the highlights and lowlights.

On our first night, we dined at LAVO, an indoor-outdoor Italian restaurant and rooftop bar perched on MBSs 57th storey with a magnificent view of Singapores twinkling skyline at night. This was where we were treated to/confronted by the 1lb meatball starter. The Meatball, as it is introduced on the menu, is a signature dish at LAVO thats comprised of imperial wagyu beef and Italian sausage, and served with an ice cream scoop-sized dollop of ricotta on the top.

The Meatball: a signature dish at LAVO

The following morning I was concerned about a proverbial hunger hangover from the eternal meatball, but my appetite promptly returned when presented with the array of local and western breakfast options at Spago. An offshoot of Wolfgang Pucks renowned Beverly Hills eaterie, this spectacular signature restaurant is also located on the rooftop of MBS, overlooking one of the three infinity pools.

With the sun peeking through the clouds, we supped our fresh carrot and watermelon juices, grazed contentedly on delicious dim sum and lazily digested the headlines of the Straits Times .

Is The Pool Open To The General Public

Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.

I am about to be the bearer of bad news and tell you that the only way you are getting in that pool is if you stay a night in the hotel. Well, or you try and jump in and get a quick snap but that means jumping over the turn-styles.

Security measures have been taken to ensure that the hotel guests are the up-most priority. The pool can only be accessed via a turn-style which is activated with a hotel key card.

There are also security guards monitoring the entrance in case you have any issues getting in. That, or theyre there to catch the ones trying to sneak in, which you may be contemplating.

I can personally see why they dont allow the general public to pay for a 1-hour pass. Can you imagine paying $400 for a room for the night, to share the pool with 100s of other people no thanks!

Unfortunately a visit right to the infinity pool is not possible from here either, but you can still access the restaurants or the night club without a reservation which gives you equally amazing views.

Relaxing comes easy at the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park

After touring the Sky Park, I toured the MBS VIP rooms. These were smaller and more personal than I had expected. The emphasis here is definitely on refined, personal service, in comfortable but private rooms. Betting limits differed from room to room , but I remember baccarat limits of $300 $150,000 in one room, and $500 to $300,000 in another, as examples. These rooms and betting limits are not for the faint hearted.

The VIP casino area has its own separate bar, in which you can sit and sip your choice of beverage. These drinks however must usually be purchased, using cash or points. Im pretty sure that comps could be arranged however.

The shopping at the Marina Bay Sands is definitely high end. Prada, Gucci, and similar brands covet for position in the large shopping mall . This is no bargain basement: if youre coming here looking for a cheap holiday, this is not the place . But it is a tasteful, decadent, and well appointed entertainment complex, thats impressive and worth visiting.

Definitely the Singapore Resorts World casino catered better, I think, for the average casino player on holiday. It was less formal, a bit more normal in atmosphere, and the shopping area was definitely more middle of the road. If I had to express a preference for a general holiday, Resorts World would be my probable choice. If I was looking to play at higher levels, then Marina Bay Sands would be the casino to visit.
