How To Donate A Vehicle
Vehicles for Veterans is Car Donation Foundation’s tax-exempt vehicle donation program that benefits disabled veterans. Our car donation program accepts cars, boats , RVs, trucks, SUVs, and motorcycles, whether they are running or not. At no cost to you, we will arrange to have your vehicle towed away at a scheduled time that is best for you and your preliminary tax receipt will be mailed to you within 15 days.
On rare occasion, we find that some vehicles, primarily boats and RVs, are not cost-effective. This will hinder our main goal, which is helping disabled veterans. We do our absolute best to make the most of every vehicle donated, but reserve the right to turn down a vehicle donation for any reason. With Goodwill Car Donations, donating a boat is not a complicated process. When you extend your helping hand to the needy, we show you our appreciation and gratitude by making it easy for you to donate and by allowing you to enjoy a satisfying giving experience. Contacting us is the only step youll be doing, and you can do this either through a phone call or by filling out our online form. You only need to provide us a few basic details regarding your watercraft, as well as your personal contact information. Well call you back shortly to set a date, time, and place of your preference for your boats FREE pickup.
On the day of towing, be sure that youve already removed every personal possession you have from your boat. Also, have your title ready, since its part of the requirement in our boat donation program. In case youve lost or misplaced it, just let us know so we can assist you in obtaining a duplicate copy.
Well issue you a towing receipt before we take your boat. The receipt gives you the freedom to cancel your boats registration and insurance coverage.
Once we have your donated vessel, well sell it at a top auction house. Well send you your 100-percent tax-deductible sales receipt by mail or e-mail a few weeks later. Youll need this receipt when you claim your tax deductions in the next tax season.
Boat Donation Statement Of Significant Intervening Use
Once you have decided that Community Boating Center is a good fit for your boat donation, there is some official paperwork that needs to be completed by law. In particular, IRS form 1098-C Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes will be completed by CBC. One copy will be sent to the IRS, you will receive a copy, and CBC will retain a copy for our files. Please note that your tax identification number is required for this form.
This form is fairly straightforward, however one item is particularly important in order for you to receive the full market value of your donation as a tax deduction as allowed by law The significant intervening use clause. Community Boating Center will certify, via IRS form 1098-C, that it intends to use vs. immediately sell the boat for profit. This distinction is important to the IRS and to your rights as a donor to see that the boat is used as you intended and to maximize your donation value as allowed by law. Thanks for visiting our Boat Donation page. We understand that saying goodbye to your jetski, sailboat or powerboat is like saying goodbye to an old friend. Boats bring families together, time on the lake time in the gulf, fishing water skiing and just plain relaxing.
If you have decided to part with your old boat, please know we will make the process as easy as it can be. We won’t ask you to do any boat repairs or even to clean your boat up. All you are going to need to do is to find a copy of your boat registration fill out a fairly simple form and send us some photos of the boat in it’s current condition. If your boat is a later model boat and you believe it is worth in excess of $5000 the process is still simple but IRS form 8283 will be needed. We help with that as well.
It doesn’t matter if you are up in the panhandle or down by the gulf when it comes to saying goodbye to an old friend let your friends at Boat Angel Outreach Center help. When you request the package of material we will send you a copy of one of our children’s programs so you can see firsthand what we do with the proceeds from your boat donation.
How Can I Donate A Boat To The Charity I Support
We ask that, in order to avoid high processing costs and potential losses, your boat be dropped off, including a trailer, at your nearest drop off location.
If a drop off is not possible, please note that most of our agents do not have the equipment necessary for towing and storing vessels. If you are unable to drop the boat off, but do have a trailer to include in the donation, please proceed with your submission and we will explore our available options.
Boats that are in the water, or without a trailer, will not be considered for donation due to prohibitive transport costs.
All boats, regardless of year/model/condition, are sold unreserved, as-is to the highest bidder. As processing costs for boats can by high and sale outcomes unpredictable we cannot guarantee a market value outcome on the sale of your donated boat.

Please note that the serial number field requires 17 digits in order for the submission to be accepted. If your serial number has less than 17 digits, please add zeros to the end of your number to meet this requirement.

Boat & Equipment Donations
CISF accepts boats and marine-related equipment donations. CISF does not have a physical site where boats can be stored. If you are interested in donating a boat or marine-related equipment to CISF, please contact Meg Myles for more information.
