When trying to decide if we were going to purchase another boat after a hiatus from boat ownership for a few years I stumbled across Freedom Boat Club of Greater Cincinnati and am delighted to say it was one of the best decisions Ive made in some time. When I calculated the costs and hassles of owning a boat the simplicity of paying a relatively inexpensive monthly fee for essentially being able to have a boat waiting and fueled at the dock anytime I wanted made my decision for me. I also travel quite a bit and have already used the membership in San Diego and will be using it in Winter Haven and Ft. Myers in a couple of weeks. I may try and slip in Islamorada when I am in the keys later if time allows. Gunnar is super easy to deal with and goes out of his way to assure his members are catered to. If you are on the fence regarding joining Freedom Boat Club I as a boat owner for over 30 years highly recommend joining us and enjoying the boating lifestyle without all the hassles of o…

Split Your Membership And Save

Contributor: Carefree Boat Club of Southern Connecticut

Do you have a close friend or family member who shares your love of boating? Do you like saving money? We are willing to bet that you do! That is why we have created and are offering prospective members the ability to split their membership with a friend or family member. Two people sharing a membership allows you to save a substantial percentage of the cost of membership.

If you join with a friend or family member we allow you to split the costs of the membership any way that you would like. This is applied to every fee related to membership, including the initiation fee, monthly membership fee, and the ResNet fee. We do, however, ask that if members split the ResNet fee they pay it on an annual basis, as opposed to monthly.

All co-members in a shared membership have equal access to ResNet, our online reservation system. Each co-member has their own login credentials that give them access to their four rotating shared reservations. Reservations can be managed by either of the co-members. And management is key! We stress that keeping an eye on your reservations, and booking in advance, will give you the best boating experience, and good communication between co-members will facilitate proper management.

Is Owning A Boat Worth It

Boats are a good investment if you dont overshoot your budget. If you research your options and go for a vessel that you can afford, nothing trumps the joy of spending time on the water. However, a boat can definitely also be a bad investment. A rule of thumb is to only buy a boat you can afford to pay for in cash.

How Many Boats Do Boat Club Members Get Access To

Freedom Boat Club

The amount and variety of boats a boat club member will receive access to depends on a variety of factors. For example, a smaller boat club serving a lakeside community will have a different fleet than an oceanside boat club. Keep in mind that youll have more options in a boat club that serves a larger community, such as a popular tourist destination.

One thing to keep in mind with boat clubs is that members must reserve their boat time beforehand. During peak times, such as weekends or major holidays like the Fourth of July, there may be limited availability for the most popular boats.

However, the vast majority of boat clubs dont have a limit on how often you can rent a boat. Boat club members can often reserve specific boat months out in advance in order to celebrate special events, enjoy a relaxing vacation on the water, or spend time with family coming in from out of town.

Because each boat club operates differently, you should research the fleet size, reservation system, and holiday availability of each boat club youre considering joining.

Can You Share Your Boat Club Membership

Some boat clubs do allow you to split the initial membership with a family member or friend for a shared membership plan. This can be a good way to cut the costs involved with joining a boat club.

While most boat clubs wont allow you to share your membership directly, they will allow you to bring family and friends aboard whenever you reserve a boat.

Despite the high initial cost of joining a boat club, many people find boat clubs a cost-effective way to enjoy boating when compared to the cost of purchasing your own boat.

Boat clubs often provide a wide variety of benefits to members at no extra cost, such as training and access to the dock. The cost of insurance, maintenance, and slip fees are also paid by the club owners.

The only additional cost for club members is the cost of fuel.

Each boat club will use a different fee structure, and some may allow you to pay part of the initial fee over time with additional monthly fees. Some boat clubs offer different levels of membership each with their own perks. You should consult with each boat club in your area to get a good idea of the standard fees charged in your area.

How Far Away From The Marina Can I Take The Boat

Most boat clubs do not dictate the specific distance that you can take the boat away from the marina. However, they do specify how soon you need to return the boat. You should keep this timeframe in mind to help you decide how far out of the marina you can take the boat.

Some clubs allow you to reserve the boats in split shifts. This means that you may reserve the boat from sunrise until mid-afternoon, and someone else will reserve the boat from the afternoon through the evening.

Shorter shifts like these will keep you tethered close to the marina to prevent you from being hit with penalties for not returning the boat on time.

If you know that you want to venture further out into the local waterways, you should plan to reserve the boat for the entire day.
