What Is The Best Boat Wax For Oxidation

Will My Boat Surface Always Recover After The Use Of An Oxidation Remover

Boat cleaning made easy/Oxidation removal from a boat.StarBright premium cleaner wax product review!

There will definitely be some sort of improvement, but after many years of use, you cannot expect a boat to look as if youve just purchased it. Over time, the shine may stop coming back, but one thing is for sure, the hull will be in good shape.

The bottom line is for the body of your boat to be healthy and stable. If you care about the gleam of the hull, then we recommend also looking at our professional reviews of select boat polishes. Polishing the boat after buffing it will significantly help.

Collinite 920 Fiberglass Boat Cleaner & 925 Fiberglass Boat Wax Combo Pack

Ridding your boat of accumulated oxidation, rust, and stains can be a challenging endeavor, and this Collinite set will help you do just that. The cleaner will restore your fiberglass and color, while the wax will add extra protection and a radiant look to your vessel. It will protect the boat surface from UV light, chalking, and corrosion. This cleaner set, coming in bottles of 16 ounces, is not exclusively for boats and can be applied to any fiberglass covering.

While the cleaner is useful for boat corrosion, it will not remove rust in some severe cases where the surface has been significantly damaged. Otherwise, the wax provides durable protection and a glowing shine, which will make your boat stand out.

Pros

  • Adds a shining look to your boat
  • Protection from corrosion and UV light

Cons

How To Use A Boat Oxidation Remover

We will now go through the simple process of applying an oxidation remover on your boat.

  • Identify the level of oxidation you have. A couple of sections earlier, we mentioned the three primary levels of oxidation. To a large extent, this will determine the type of product you need. Newer boats with light levels of oxidation will require a light-duty product. Heavy-duty removers are to be sued only if the severity of the oxidation is high.
  • Once you are comfortable with what product you will use, wipe clean your boat using a simple rag or a mop. Apply water and some detergent if you wish, but make sure the hull is dry before commencing with the remover.
  • Pick the correct detailing tool. Oxidation removers are best applied using an electric cleaner. We dont recommend doing everything by hand, especially if you got a lot of areas to cover. Use a buffer, and it will make all the difference in the world. Look for a buffer with as much fluff and softness as possible. Remember, we need to be as gentle to the boat as possible. Something that rotates in a random direction and has a foam wool pad will do the trick.
  • After you are done buffing, nothing stops you from wiping the surface with a dry rag. Thats it, you are done!

Preserve The Value Of Your Boat By Having It Buffed & Waxed

Ask any yacht broker or salesman, they will tell you that boats that have been detailed and maintained over the years sell twice as fast as boats that have not been waxed. Even if certain boats have more engine hours, the aesthetics sell.

Remember that boats need a good wash every month so that grime and dirt does not build up on the outer gelcoat! We recommend washing your boat down once a month with a soap that is compatible with your wax! Most wax products require using a PH Neutral Soap. Guess what, Original Dawn Dish Soap is a PH Neutral Soap, and its way cheaper than any Boat Soap.

UV rays will beat up your boats gelcoat unless you have the proper protection on the gelcoat. If your boat is oxidized, applying a wax will do nothing but seal imperfection. You will have to use a compound to buff out the oxidation before applying wax.

Think of wax and sealants like saving your work. If your boat is oxidized, you are only sealing imperfection. You have to buff away oxidation before applying a wax!

Give us a call to have your boat buffed, waxed, washed, polished, and protected to offer maximum protection from the weather! Salt water is especially harmful to boats, especially when they are not maintained and washed monthly.

Is It Possible To Prevent Oxidation

    Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover Meguiar

The answer to that question isnt a simple yes or no, unfortunately. Mother Nature is not only powerful, but she is also persistent, and she wins in the end, over all things. Over a long enough timeline, your metal hull will experience oxidation.

However, it is possible to slow down the process of oxidation, if not eliminate it entirely. There are 3 main stages to oxidation, and you can do things to catch them on time and take the right measures to slow them down.

Best Boat Wax For Brand New Boats

Darren’s Professional Tips: regardless of what type of boat you have and regardless of the color, due to the size of your boat I am a big fan of finding boat wax that is easier to use, not harder to use.

Often we become so obsessed with finding the best boat wax that we forget about the user experience which includes the application and removal of the boat wax you have chosen.

So my recommendation of the best boat wax is the winning balance between durability, and ease of use. I want a boat wax that is as easy as possible to use so that I am willing to wax my boat more often, not less often.

How To Polish A Boat With A Buffer

You are allowed to polish your boat without using a buffer, but keep in mind that the results that you are going to get might be less satisfactory. If your boat has sustained scratches or damage only in a specific area, you can use a microfiber cloth to apply polish and then wax that specific area.

If your boats hull has contaminants and imperfections in general and across its entire surface, you should always use a buffer.

Seal Out The Oncoming Winter With Rubbing Buffing Waxing And Polishing But Don’t Forget The Elbow Grease

Hold the buffer flat against the hull sides, and apply pressure evenly.

Keeping gelcoat properly maintained isn’t just a matter of vanity, it’s also a matter of protecting your boat’s fiberglass. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get real you do want to dazzle your slip neighbors with the mirror-like hull sides on Mom’s Mink, don’t you? You’re far more likely to be able to raise a good shine come spring if you remove the season’s stains now and protect the fiberglass from the ravages of winter with a couple of good coats of wax. Luckily, keeping your boat in tip-top shape is a lot easier than it was in the old days when wooden vessels called for scraping, sanding, and painting for hours on end. But don’t get too smug. There’s still a lot of work in your future, so let’s get started.

If youre like the average boat owner out there, then you hate it when your boat starts to look old. All those stains scum lines certainly dont add much to the aesthetic.

Sometimes getting rid of them is as easy as a good wash. At other times, no matter how many rounds of washing and wiping, your boat just cant regain its sheen. In that case, youre probably dealing with oxidation and will have to get the best boat oxidation remover.

But there are so many boat oxidation removers on the market that its easy to feel overwhelmed. How do you know the right one to pick?

Thats what this article is for.

Is Vinegar Effective Against Oxidation In Fiberglass

Vinegar can be used to remove light oxidation on fiberglass surfaces, but it isnt effective on heavy oxidation. It can be used to remove normal stains, such as scum, grime, mildew, and others, but it isnt very potent against oxidation at least, not nearly as potent as boat oxidation removers that have been built for the purpose.

If you would like to use vinegar to clean the fiberglass surface of your boat, mix it with baking soda. Be careful, as baking soda can be abrasive and might make scratches on the fiberglass surface. Also, the mix of baking soda and vinegar on fiberglass might cause a reaction.

Your best option is to use a proper boat oxidation remover, as many of these have been formulated with additives to prevent abrasion or chemical reaction, and will remove oxidation without damaging the surface of your boat.

How Aggressive Does Your Polish Need To Be

If you keep your boat in great condition, store it well, and follow a regular maintenance schedule, then you can probably purchase less intensive products. Oxidation is one of the biggest problems that boaters face, however, it doesnt always require a super strong rubbing compound to get rid of it. If youre regular about your maintenance, a little bit of elbow grease and patience will get rid of it.

However, if youre a little neglectful when it comes to your maintenance, and allow for heavy oxidation, water spots, water stains, and grease and grime build up, you may need to invest in a heavier-duty abrasive polish to cut through the dirt, restore shine, and bring your colors back to life.

We always recommend starting with gentler products and working up to the harder stuff. Youll be surprised just how effective some of the weaker compounds truly are.
