New Jersey Dragon Boat Club
The New Jersey Dragon Boat Club, located in Parsippany, NJ, is the states first dragon boat club. It was founded in 1999 and promotes boating with events, clinics, consulting and volunteering.
Unlike other clubs, this is a paddle club with teams and races. Anyone, even those without experience can join, but you must complete a paddler agreement, sign an individual waiver and pay the fee. Fees are $125 for adults and $25 for youth and college students.
The unique aspect of this club is that you can pay $10 each practice as a non-member until you decide whether you want to join. Also, non-members can join in on team activities with fees ranging from $5 to $20 a day.
There are four teams in this club. Two are for women and two are co-ed crews One is specifically for those new to the club.

Why Does The Cost Of The One
The cost of the one-time membership fee is based upon local market conditions, and those can vary widely.
Just as a 2000-square foot house in Seattle, WA or San Francisco, CA would cost significantly more than the same house in Sarasota, FL or Clemson, SC, marina costs can differ vastly from market to market.
If an FBC franchise is operating in a popular boating destination, the marina operator can command top dollar. The franchise owner is competing for limited slip space against other entities, including boat owners or other commercial interests. The more a marina charges for slip fees, dock and office space, etc., the more costly it is for the FBC franchise owner to operate the business. This means that the one-time entry fee is generally higher in larger metropolitan markets.
What Are The Extra Costs
Fuel isnt included in the costs. Depending on the distance traveled and the current gas prices, most members pay $15 to $45 per outing. As a rule of thumb, most boats in the fleet will burn three to five gallons of gasoline per hour.
A transfer fee, if you were to want to transfer to another location, can be done for about $500.

What A Boat Club Is Not
First, we want to make sure you understand what a boat club is not. People understand that basically you buy into a club and in return are given access to boats that belong to the club. One of the most common misconceptions though is that a boat club is like a time share. This is one theory we want to quickly put to rest. A time share, by definition, LIMITS your time in using whatever amenity you bought into. A boat club is just the opposite. There is NO limit on the amount of time you can use the boats.

Fortunately, many of the most popular boat clubs offer some form of training for new skippers.For most of these locations, safety training is a mandatory part of your membership. You will not be permitted to reserve a boat until you have completed the necessary safety training.
Some clubs have members of the United States Coast Guard on hand to train their members and do official walk-throughs of their boats.
Freedom Boat Club offers both classroom training and on-the-water classes to get you up to speed quickly. Their courses cover basic safety and operation of the different types of boats included in their fleet.
Carefree Boat Club offers similar training. You start by reading their training manual and follow-up with a hands-on class that covers the same concepts.
