With one of the longest towing services, plus trip interruption coverage, AAA has become the gold standard in roadside assistance for long road trips. Since 1902, AAA has brought motorists together. These days, AAA offers an extensive range of covered services, with tons of extra perks and benefits included.

Even the most basic roadside assistance plan, the Classic, boasts an impressive standard. At $81 per year, youll receive towing up to three miles, up to $50 toward lockout services, fuel delivery, winching, and even included travel accident insurance if youre more than 50 miles from home. Additional family members can be added to your plan for $59 each per year.

Anyone can go online to purchase one of AAAs roadside assistance plans. If you are in need of assistance, you can call their toll-free phone number or use their website or smartphone app. Their customer service team is there for you 24/7.

Progressive Insurance: 45 Stars

Progressive coverage is affordable and offers a number of valuable add-ons like rental car reimbursement, custom parts and equipment value, and roadside assistance. While its roadside assistance is a little more expensive than other providers, it is also the most comprehensive. We think most customers will be satisfied with Progressive’s towing service.

We also like Progressive for its plans for high-risk drivers, including drivers in their 20s and those with DUIs on their driving record. Plus, Progressive is highly rated by industry professionals like AM Best.

You may tow a trailer with a MAM exceeding 750kg. To tow anything other than a very light horse trailer, you will need Category B+E on your licence. To get this you have to take an additional test. Pros Of Aaa Membership

AAA membership has some clear benefits for drivers and vehicle owners. Some of these benefits arent available from competitors, like car insurance companies in-house motorist service packages.

  • Timely Service in a Variety of Emergencies. AAAs flagship roadside assistance service is available 24/7. Whether youre on a rural highway in the middle of the night or an urban freeway in the middle of rush hour, you can rely on AAA to answer your distress call and dispatch in-network assistance in a timely fashion.
  • Can Dramatically Reduce the Cost of Owning Older Cars. An emergency tow can cost up to well over $100. That means a single complimentary tow per year usually covers the Classic membership cost, which is good news for older, breakdown-prone vehicle owners. You can also leverage other free or low-cost services, like locksmithing, rental cars, jump-starts, and battery replacement. AAA wont cover the total cost, but it can reduce it.
  • Can Be Used With Any Vehicle. When it comes to servicing nonmembers vehicles, AAA sticks to a dont-ask, dont-tell policy. Its customer-contact staff doesnt ask if you own the car that needs service as long as you dont make it evident that its not yours.
  • Can I Use My Aaa For A Friend If Im Not There

According to AAA, the membership provides benefits to the actual member, not the vehicle. That means if you are with someone else who is having car problems, you can use your card to get service for their vehicle. The same would work if you dont have a membership but a friend traveling with you does.

The Final Word On Auto Insurance Coverage For Towing A Boat

If you are part of an accident where the boat you are towing inflicts damage on another car, then you could be covered by your liability policy for the damages.

However, the coverage will only extend up to your policy limits and will not cover you if the boat was not attached to the car or trailer when the accident occurred.

The reason boat insurance makes sense for avid boaters is that damage to your boat itself is not covered by your standard car insurance policy when you are towing it on public roads.

Consider the advantages of bundling your car and boat insurance through the same insurance company and that you have adequate coverage for the value of your boat.

What Will You Pay If You Break Down On The Water? | BoatUS
    • AAA offers extrication and winching services with up to two vehicles and two drivers. If you end up off the road due to an accident or bad weather you would most likely need to be pulled out to be towed for service. This coverage could be a big win, if your RV ends up sliding into the ditch
    • Good Sam offers trip interruption service. Reimbursement for the cost of meals, lodging and car rental if your vehicle is disabled due to a collision with another vehicle more than 100 miles from your home. Thats a pretty nice perk to have if you need it.
    • AAA offers a similar service but calls it car travel interruption protection. If youre traveling by car and are 100 miles or more away from home and have a breakdown or accident while en route, or if your vehicle is stolen while en route, they will reimburse you for emergency expenses . Limits vary dependent on your membership package. This seems to only apply to your car and not your RV, so less helpful from an RVing perspective.
    • AAA allows four roadside service calls per membership year. Good Sam does not have a limit on their roadside calls. Thats a huge plus for Good Sam.

    WINNER Good Sam

Depending on the type of issue you have, one company or the other could be the winner for you. Stuck in a ditch? AAA is your friend. In a collision with your RV while you are away from home? Good Sam will take care of you.

    Aaa Rv Insurance Overview

The American Automobile Association is also known as Triple A, or AAA. Theyâre an established company that has a reputation for providing you with multiple services and great prices. Although theyâre most popularly known for having great roadside assistance, they also provide RV, auto, boat, and life insurance.

AAA Insurance provides RV coverage to the following 7 U.S. states:

    • Alaska
    • Utah
    • Wyoming

To be eligible for an insurance policy with AAA you need to first become a member. The cost of this membership is an additional $119 per year. You need your ID and a clear photo of yourself to apply.

    Aaa Extended Warranty Eligibility Requirements

    • The vehicle is less than 15 years old
    • The vehicle has less than 150,000 miles

Coverage and eligibility details can vary by state. It’s also worth noting that the AAA Vehicle Protection Plan is technically a vehicle service plan, which provides the same coverage as an extended warranty. However, vehicle service plans are offered by car insurance companies, whereas extended warranties are generally sold by dealerships or third-party companies. For more information, check out WalletHub’s guide to extended car warranties.

    Roadside assistance from AT& T

$35.88 per year for each enrolled phone line

    Roadside assistance from Verizon

$59.88 per year for each enrolled phone line

AAA costs vary by region, and each level of membership comes with different benefits. Roadside assistance from an insurance company is usually less expensive than AAA, but it often provides less coverage. For instance, AAA includes benefits besides roadside assistance, like discounts with affiliated companies, identity theft monitoring, and trip interruption coverage.

It’s also worth noting that AAA ranked below many competitors in WalletHub’s roadside assistance study because it has a large number of unresolved customer complaints. For more information, check out WalletHub’s study of the best roadside assistance plans.

Towing coverage may be included in your boat insurance policy. While not required, boat insurance is usually a good idea for large or valuable boats that would be expensive to cover out of pocket.

    • Most insurance companies will consider the load you are towing behind your vehicle to be covered under your insurance policy if it inflicts damage on another vehicle
    • Some companies may offer an add-on to your standard car insurance policy that covers boat towing, trailer towing, or your RV itself
    • First and foremost, boaters and RVers will want to make sure that their insurance policy covers any personal effects in the load they are towing
    • Adding this to your policy may increase the premium slightly, but as any boater knows, the personal items stored in a boat are often as valuable and sometimes as expensive as the boat itself

Our Take On Progressive Roadside Assistance

Progressive roadside assistance is one of the more costly roadside assistance programs compared to other insurers. However, it is only slightly more expensive than competitors, and in some cases may be less expensive overall if your Progressive car insurance policy is cheaper than competitors’ coverage.

Progressive’s roadside assistance package includes standard roadside services such as towing, lockout service, and fluid delivery. It also includes some non-typical coverage such as electric battery coverage and even roadside assistance for RVs and boats. Overall, we think this is a quality policy add-on for customers who already insure their vehicles with Progressive, but it may not be worth switching to Progressive just to receive.

    Our Recommendations For Roadside Assistance

Roadside assistance coverage is not very expensive and can easily pay for itself. Think about how often you’ve had to use a towing, winching, or locksmith service in the past. If it is at least once every few years, a roadside assistance add-on may be worth it.

While the Progressive roadside assistance program compares well with competitors’ programs, we dont recommend choosing a car insurance provider based on the emergency roadside assistance program alone. Decide which types of car insurance you need for your primary policy and go from there. You can compare quotes from top auto insurance companies by calling or by entering your zip code below.

We think that Progressive, Geico, and AAA have some of the best roadside assistance options, and we’ve rated each of these companies highly among insurance providers more generally as well.

How Much Do Roadside Assistance Plans Cost

First, check to see if your car manufacturer, lender, or insurance carrier offers roadside assistance for free or low cost. If not, you could pay between $30 and $240 per year for membership, depending on the plan you choose. Some plans charge per use, while others have coverage limits to keep in mind. Youll need to pay any costs that exceed those limits.

    Re: Aaa For Boat Trailers

Check with your boat insurance co. What I have been told is that my baot insurance will cover the boat towing if the tow vehicle breaks down. The reason they will do this is because they do not want your boat to be sitting there , unguarded on the side of the road waiting for someone to borrow it. That would cost them a lot of money in a claim. Once again, check with your boat insurance person. You might save some money.
