The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation requires all vessels with ANY type of motor to be registered.
Boats exemptfrom registration include:
- Manually propelled vessels .
- Float tubes.

Length is the straight-line distance from the foremost part of the boat to the rearmost part of the boat . Bowsprits, outboard motor brackets, rudders and other attachments are not included in the measurement.
A watercraft license is not required for: Non-motorized watercraft 10 ft or less, or a watercraft owned by a person from another state and that state does not require licensing of that type of watercraft and it is not within Minnesota for more than 90 consecutive days. Bill Of Sale For Boat
A Bill of Sale for a boat must have adequate information to positively link the BOS to the boat, similar to the example WRD BOS.
Owners of Georgia registered boats must notify the Department, in writing, of sale or transfer, theft or recovery, or destruction or abandonment of a boat within 15 days.
The following should be on the BOS:
- GA or Other State Registration Number
- HIN #
- Hull Material
- Sellers and Buyers Signature
It is a judgment call whether WRD believes the BOS received is adequate to link the vessel to the BOS in a reasonably sufficient manner, or whether other documents such as a transferred title, a manufacturers statement of origin, or other information supports the submitted BOS. A BOS does not have to be witnessed OR notarized, although this is acceptable.
If it is determined that a BOS is not available at all or is not adequate, the customer should obtain an adequate BOS. If a BOS cannot be obtained, the Affidavit of Vessel Ownership process may be completed.
Title Or Register Your Boat
You must register with LDWF all motorized vessels/watercraft, including sailboats 12 feet or longer, used in Louisiana waters. You much also register non-motorized houseboats.;
You must title a boat or outboard motor that is financed or currently titled in another state when youre registering it in Louisiana, a homemade boat, or a boat that has an incorrect hull identification number.
How do I register my boat?
For motorized boats, complete a Boat Registration/Boat and Motor Title Application and submit it, along with original notarized documentation demonstrating boat ownership , any other documents required for the special cases listed below, and a check, cashiers check, or money order for applicable fees.

Boat Registration & License Fees
The fees associated with operating your boat are as follows:
- Registration/renewal fee, which depends on the length of your boat :
- Class I16 ft: $18.
- Class II16 ft to 26 ft: $23.
- Class III26 ft to 40 ft: $73.
- Class IV40 ft and longer: $98.

How Long Do I Have To Register My Boat
Although there are no late penalties collected by the License Office for the registration or renewal of a boat, the Alabama Marine Patrol places certain limitations on the period of time an owner has to register a vessel in his or her name.
- There is a 72 hour grace period for the registration of a new boat.
- If you purchase a used boat that is currently registered in Alabama, you must make application for transfer within 15 calendar days of purchase.
- There is no grace period for a used boat that does not have a valid Alabama registration. If you purchase a used boat with an expired registration, you MUST currently register the boat before it is placed in the water.
Remember: The only way to guarantee that you do not receive a ticket for not having a boat registered in your name is to register the boat in your name before placing it in the water.

Change Or Transfer Your Registration Details
If you have sold your boat, you may be eligible to transfer the registration online as the seller.
If you have bought a recreational boat, you need to change the ownership details into your name within 14 days of the purchase. Take with you:
Alternatively you may be eligible to transfer the registration online as the buyer. Note: The seller needs to complete their part of transfer online or in person before you can transfer the registration into your name online.
If you have bought or sold a boat with a registered trailer, you also need to transfer the trailer registration.
Applying For Vessel Registration
Applications for vessel registration are to be filed with the county tax collector or license plate agent. When applying for registration, the owner must establish proof of ownership by submitting an executed bill of sale, a builders contract, a manufacturers statement of origin, a federal marine document or another document acceptable to the FLHSMV. If the vessel is required to be titled, the title must be issued prior to the issuance of the registration.

Vessels From Private Sellers
In general, to register a vessel bought from a private seller in Tennessee, you’ll need to submit the following:
- A completed boat registration application, available only at your local county clerk’s office.
- After paying sales tax, the county clerk will stamp your application as proof.

- By mail OR in person to the address on your application for boat registration.
- Online by uploading your registration application on the TWRA’s registration system.

Renewing Or Updating A Pleasure Craft Licence
A Pleasure Craft Licence that was issued or updated after 2010 is valid for 10 years. At the end of that period, you must renew your licence.
If you change your name, address, or particulars of the pleasure craft after you obtain a Pleasure Craft Licence, you must update your licence.

Where To Register Your Boat
You have two options for submitting your registration application.
- Option 1: Online
Sign into your GoWILD customer account at GoWild.WI.Gov and fill out your boat registration application online. Using the online site to transfer a titled boat will require you to mail in the boat Certificate of Title and any supporting documents to complete the transfer of ownership. Once your online boat registration application is submitted, you will have the option to print a 60-day temporary operating receipt which can be used to immediately operate your boat until registration materials arrive in the mail.
Note: For boats 16 feet or longer, you must mail in the boat title, MSO and other supporting documents to complete the transaction. Until then, your boat transaction will be in pending status.
- Option 2: Mail
All fields on the Boat Registration and Titling Application or on the Fleet Boat Registration and Titling Application are required unless stated otherwise. See below for additional application and forms. Incomplete applications will result in processing delays. If you mail in your complete registration application, you must wait until your new certificate of registration and decals arrive in the mail before you can legally operate your boat. Registering Or Purchasing An Inherited Boat
When a person dies, title to their property, including any vessels they owned, becomes vested in another person. A formal legal process guides this action. Legal documents may be available to show who gained ownership of a vessel from the estate, or who has legal authority, such as an Executor or Administrator of an estate, to dispose of a vessel.
To transfer registration, the Department of Natural Resources must have a legal document reflecting the change in ownership of the vessel. We have past instances where we learn ownership of a vessel is in dispute. For example, someone may have sold a deceased’s vessel to a third party and others in the family or spouse claim the seller had no ownership claim to legally sell the vessel. Therefore, the person that sold the boat was not the owner and the buyer is unable to legally transfer registration.
Boats Bought From Dealers
If you bought your vessel from a dealer, most of the registration process will be completed at the dealership. You will need:

- The dealer will need to stamp your application as proof of sales tax paid.

What Is A Boat Registration
Boat registration is not required for pleasure craft in Canada. You can either license or register your boat. Still, certification does offer you some protection. It is often needed for the mortgage company involved in the purchase of your vessel. You must get the necessary paperwork and fill it out correctly, then send it to Transport Canada for processing. Hull Number Correction Information
The U.S. Coast Guard has mandated that all registered vessels in the State of Tennessee provide a properly formatted Hull Identification Number to TWRA.
The Hull Identification Number is a 12 character serial number that uniquely identifies a boat and is formatted according to US Coast Guard standards. The HIN is similar to the VIN on a car. Vessels manufactured or imported before 1973 are EXEMPT because they often do not have a HIN. All boats manufactured or imported after 1972, must have a HIN, and this HIN must be identified during the boat registration process. HIN numbers are typically located:
- On sport and fishing boats, they can be found on the back right outside corner.
- On pontoons, they can be found on the right side of the frame above the pontoon, but below the deck.
- On personal watercraft, they can be found under the seat as well as on the lip of the footrest.
If you are unable to locate the HIN number in any of these locations, photos of these areas of the vessel will be required.
Customers with an invalid HIN may renew their boats but within the next three years, our system may decline these renewals and any new owner applications in order to comply with the Agencys Coast Guard deadline.
It is imperative to correct these numbers in the system before that deadline.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency offers online renewal of boat registrations through its website by Other types of transactions must still be processed in person at the License Office.
Please be aware that you will not receive a renewal notice from the Tuscaloosa County License Office the next year if you renew your boat registration online because the renewal will not be in our registration system.
