To establish proof of ownership, we accept documents that have the following information:
- name, address and signature of previous owner
- name and signature of new owner
- description of the pleasure craft
- hull serial number
- pleasure craft licence number

- signed agreements of transfer of ownership
Note: You will need to provide a statutory declaration as proof of ownership if:
- you did not get or have lost your proof of ownership
- you cant contact the person who sold you the boat
- you built your own boat
- provincial/territorial birth certificate
- provincial/territorial driver’s licence
- other forms of government-issued identification
Note: Provincial/territorial health cards are not accepted. If you are a resident of another country, we accept government-issued identification from your own country.

All motorized vessels operating on Floridas public waterways must be titled and registered. Chapter 328, Florida Statutes, designates that FLHSMV is responsible for issuing vessel registrations and titles. Applications for titles and registrations must be filed at a county tax collector or license plate agent office. Owners have the option of registering their vessel for either one year or two years.
A purchaser of a new or used vessel has 30 days to title and register that vessel. During this 30 day period, the owner must have proof of the date of purchase aboard the vessel. Operating an unregistered vessel after 30 days is a second-degree misdemeanor.

Applying For Vessel Registration
Applications for vessel registration are to be filed with the county tax collector or license plate agent. When applying for registration, the owner must establish proof of ownership by submitting an executed bill of sale, a builders contract, a manufacturers statement of origin, a federal marine document or another document acceptable to the FLHSMV. If the vessel is required to be titled, the title must be issued prior to the issuance of the registration.
Where Can I Find The Hin On My Boat
The HIN must be located where it is clearly visible when the boat is in the water. You will find the HIN on the outside starboard side of the transom. If your boat does not have a transom, the HIN will be on the uppermost starboard side at the aft end of the hull.

Where To Register Your Boat
You have two options for submitting your registration application.
- Option 1: Online
Sign into your GoWILD customer account at GoWild.WI.Gov and fill out your boat registration application online. Using the online site to transfer a titled boat will require you to mail in the boat Certificate of Title and any supporting documents to complete the transfer of ownership. Once your online boat registration application is submitted, you will have the option to print a 60-day temporary operating receipt which can be used to immediately operate your boat until registration materials arrive in the mail.
Note: For boats 16 feet or longer, you must mail in the boat title, MSO and other supporting documents to complete the transaction. Until then, your boat transaction will be in pending status.
- Option 2: Mail
All fields on the Boat Registration and Titling Application or on the Fleet Boat Registration and Titling Application are required unless stated otherwise. See below for additional application and forms. Incomplete applications will result in processing delays. If you mail in your complete registration application, you must wait until your new certificate of registration and decals arrive in the mail before you can legally operate your boat. The only exception is if the application was completed and submitted on your behalf by a DNR authorized boat dealer.

In the state of South Carolina, the law requires all motorized boats and watercraft, except exempted vessels, sailboats, and all outboard motors five horsepower and greater to be titled. From a vessel title state: Buyer should obtain a detailed bill of sale from the seller and the original out of state title showing transfer to their name, and the original state registration card if available. All transfers of ownership must be on the title.
