Captain Scott Morgan has wanted to share his love of boats and Edgartown with people for a number of years. Finally, the right boat found him. He named his boat after one that he remembers fondly from his childhood. In the 1980s the Alewife would moor in Edgartown Harbor. It was the largest boat at that time, and the owners would let children come aboard. Scott will always remember that boat and now hes paying homage with his own, beautiful Alewife .

Ferry Breakdown Caused Ripple Effect For Ssa

The Steamship Authoritys schedule was a mess on Saturday after the MV Nantucket had to be replaced by MV Sankaty, a smaller ferry that has less walk-on capacity.

According to spokesman Sean Driscoll, an engine governor needed to be replaced on the Nantucket. The repairs to the Nantucket continued Sunday morning, the SSA reported. At about 8:30 am, the SSA tweeted that the repairs were complete and the Nantucket would return to its schedule starting at 8:35 am Sunday. Meanwhile the Sankaty will remain in service to accommodate vehicles that were unable to travel earlier this morning, a tweet states.

The loss of the Nantucket, which runs between Woods Hole and Oak Bluffs, caused delays throughout the day Saturday.

As a result, the MV Marthas Vineyard missed its first crossing of the day on Sunday due to Coast Guard mandated rest hours overnight, according to a Tweet by the SSA.

That led to confusion at the terminals on Saturday and social media lit up with people upset about the inconvenience.

On Sunday morning, the SSA added to the confusion by canceling a ferry in an email blast and then corrected it. In a text message, Driscoll said customers also received an email telling them that cancellation was sent out in error, it was posted on social media and the SSAs website.

We boarded the Alewife at Memorial Wharf and were greeted warmly by the crew. Soon we had a glass of wine in hand, while sitting in comfort on the stern of the boat. It is such a wonderful experience relaxing, motoring through the harbor. Taking the time to enjoy the beautiful homes that pepper the shoreline, sailing past the boats, the Chappy Beach Club, the Edgartown Lighthouse and more.

Soon after we set sail, we were treated to lovely, delicious passed hors doeuvres and a fabulous charcuterie assortment. The crew was there to refill drinks when necessary and answer questions we had while underway. Dont forget to head up to the bow of the boat. A party of four is ideal a maximum of six is allowed by Coast Guard regulations. Bring the kids it will likely be an experience not soon forgotten! Bring a swim suit, towel, and lunch.
