Everything To See And Do On Marthas Vineyard Massachusetts
Edgartown: the most popular town on the island as a Marthas Vineyard yacht charter port, is a 22 nautical mile sail from Nantucket and a 48 nautical mile sail from Newport, Rhode Island, a popular starting location for a yacht charter cruise through the southern New England Islands. The Edgartown Yacht Club sits as a welcoming beacon at the opening of the harbor after the Chappaquiddick ferry landing, and hosts a popular sailing regatta every summer. Named after the young son of King James II of England that died in 1671, Edgartown has been in existence since 1642 with historic buildings clustered along cobbled streets, many featuring the famous New England architectural feature of the Widows Walk. There are great shops ashore, and it is a treat to explore ashore wandering down the many streets filled with colonial architecture, and lovely little garden plots with flowers peeking around fence posts.

Menemsha and Gay Head: Featuring a lighthouse built in 1799, perched on the top of Aquinnah Cliffs, with the head land known as Gay Head, due to the gaily colored bluffs comprised of clay, striated in different natural colors creating a unique landmark that is fun to visit. Buried in the surrounding area of Menemsha are very large private homes, one might not even know where there, along with a very quaint fishing village which is at the opposite end of the spectrum from upscale Edgartown.

We Love Mv: Experiencing Marthas Vineyard Aboard The Vintage Luxury Yacht Alewife Meet The Captain
Captain Scott Morgan has wanted to share his love of boats and Edgartown with people for a number of years. Finally, the right boat found him. He named his boat after one that he remembers fondly from his childhood. In the 1980s the Alewife would moor in Edgartown Harbor. It was the largest boat at that time, and the owners would let children come aboard. Scott will always remember that boat and now hes paying homage with his own, beautiful Alewife .
Ferry Breakdown Caused Ripple Effect For Ssa
The Steamship Authoritys schedule was a mess on Saturday after the MV Nantucket had to be replaced by MV Sankaty, a smaller ferry that has less walk-on capacity.
According to spokesman Sean Driscoll, an engine governor needed to be replaced on the Nantucket. The repairs to the Nantucket continued Sunday morning, the SSA reported. At about 8:30 am, the SSA tweeted that the repairs were complete and the Nantucket would return to its schedule starting at 8:35 am Sunday. Meanwhile the Sankaty will remain in service to accommodate vehicles that were unable to travel earlier this morning, a tweet states.
The loss of the Nantucket, which runs between Woods Hole and Oak Bluffs, caused delays throughout the day Saturday.
As a result, the MV Marthas Vineyard missed its first crossing of the day on Sunday due to Coast Guard mandated rest hours overnight, according to a Tweet by the SSA.
That led to confusion at the terminals on Saturday and social media lit up with people upset about the inconvenience.
On Sunday morning, the SSA added to the confusion by canceling a ferry in an email blast and then corrected it. In a text message, Driscoll said customers also received an email telling them that cancellation was sent out in error, it was posted on social media and the SSAs website.

We Love Mv: Experiencing Marthas Vineyard Aboard The Vintage Luxury Yacht Alewife Features First
We boarded the Alewife at Memorial Wharf and were greeted warmly by the crew. Soon we had a glass of wine in hand, while sitting in comfort on the stern of the boat. It is such a wonderful experience relaxing, motoring through the harbor. Taking the time to enjoy the beautiful homes that pepper the shoreline, sailing past the boats, the Chappy Beach Club, the Edgartown Lighthouse and more.
Soon after we set sail, we were treated to lovely, delicious passed hors doeuvres and a fabulous charcuterie assortment. The crew was there to refill drinks when necessary and answer questions we had while underway. Dont forget to head up to the bow of the boat. Here, the wind is in your hair and the open water seems teeming with endless possibilities.
There is so much to take in and enjoy in the harbor. Sailing about on a pleasure boat like the Alewife offers a smooth sail with vintage luxury touches. It is a boat that has a history and is writing its next chapter with Captain Morgan and all the joy it brings to those who board her.
