Chartering a captained boat is a wise move for visitors who arent familiar with the lake, said Mahoney. He recalled customers who rented uncaptained boats in the past and had lackluster experiences.

They get out on Lake George and they dont realize how big Lake George is, and they see very little. They dont know where to go, what to do, and they ride around in circles, he said.

Having a captain onboard makes the trip more relaxing, he noted.

They can have their cocktails, they can eat their food, have a fun swim and they dont have to worry about it. They have a designated driver thats fully certified in first aid, CPR, and a licensed guide, he explained.

The 1 hour ride on the Horihan was a delight. We went with our daughter, young grandchildren and our dog. We had plenty of room to spread out the 3 year old delighted in ‘exploring the ship’. The narrated history of the area added a lot to our entire visit to Lake George area. The narrator had the most charming voice, and the crew were accommodating and pleasant. The ship has bathrooms and serves light snacks on board. We got there early and were able to park easily.

My favorite part of this experience was learning the historical information as we travelled 1/2 down the lake.
