Freedom Boat Club Acquires New York Franchise Operation And Territory
NEW YORK, April 08, 2021 — Freedom Boat Club, a division of Brunswick Corporation , announced today that it has acquired the Freedom Boat Club of New York franchise operation and territory. This announcement comes just four weeks after Freedom announced that it had acquired the franchise operation and territory rights in the Chicago market.
The scope of the transaction includes six New York area locations covering Long Island based in Northport, Glen Cove, Lindenhurst, Freeport, Port Jefferson, and Port Washington. In addition, Freedom Boat Club will acquire the corresponding territory rights which includes all of Long Island, New York City , the eastern coastline of Westchester County and the western coastline of Westchester County to the Tappan Zee bridge.
New York City is the largest metropolitan area in the United States and Long Island alone has nearly eight million residents said Cecil Cohn, Freedom Boat Club Network president. Growing our footprint in top boating communities such as this one is consistent with our continued growth plans. Peter Coons wants to get as many people as possible out and enjoying the water.
âIt’s a beautiful day. I mean what is better than this,” said Coons while driving an $80,000 center console fishing boat on the Freedom Boat Club fleet.
He sells and rents boats at his marina, Seager Marine in Canandaigua. He also owns two Freedom Boat Club franchise locations, one in Canandaiguaand a new second location at the Port of Rochester.
âFreedom BC is not just in Canandaigua and the Port of Rochester, there are locations in Lake George, Buffalo, Toronto and in France and in the UK,” said Coons. “Once you become a member of the club you can go to any of those clubs. You have reciprocal rights to those clubs.”

Summer in the U.S. usually synonymous with boating, but this summer, boat sales are off the charts and availability is scarce. According to the Brunswick Corporation, the company that owns Mercury, Boston Whaler, Lund, Bayliner, Sea Ray, Lowe Boats, among other well-known brands, you can credit the pandemic for driving more people into boating in the past 18 months.
Last summer when COVID hit, demand for boats went through the roof, said Lee Gordon, a Vice President at Brunswick, noting that boating rose in popularity because it was an activity where people could safely social distance with their family and recreate at the same time. Buying a boat is tough right now as demand far outweighs what is in the market. We are currently selling boats into 2023.

Well, if you cant buy a boat, the next best thing is to rent one. If you cant do that, then consider joining a club. Carefree Boat Club, Nautical Boat Club, 321 Boat Club and Suntex are among the players in this field, but the largest one happens to be Freedom Boat Club, which Brunswick bought in 2019.

- Freedom Boat Club Newport was opened in 2009 at the Newport Yachting Center.
- Freedom Boat Club Portsmouth is located at the junction of Mount Hope Bay and the Sakonnet River in the Safe Harbor Sakonnet Marina.
- Barrington is the newest Freedom Boat Club in Rhode Island, opening spring of 2019. It is located at the Safe Harbor Cove Haven Marina.
- Warwick Freedom Boat Club is located in the Safe Harbor Cowesett North Yard. It is adjacent to Chelos restaurant covering most of A Dock. It opened in 2007 and is the largest location in Rhode Island, according to Freedom Boat Club.
Since joining the Freedom family in 2009, we have greatly valued their partnership and support, both of which have been instrumental in our success over the years, said Richard Cromwell in the press release. We are excited to see their plans for accelerated expansion come to fruition, since they offer our members additional boating locations across the Northeast.
