Arkansas Tourism And Lakes

Just how important are lakes and rivers to Arkansas tourism? We asked Meg Matthews, public information coordinator for Arkansas State Parks.

We attract 29.2 million visitors a year to Arkansas. We dont have figures to show how many people come to our state specifically for lake recreation, but we can tell you that 223,000 people visit Marion County each year thats where Bull Shoals is located. And 1.1 million people visit Baxter County each year thats where Norfork is.

Obviously not all lakes are located in Arkansas State Parks, however, it might be of interest that 24 of the 52 Arkansas State Parks have lakes. These include Bull Shoals-White River State Park, DeGray Lake Resort State Park, Lake Fort Smith State Park and many more. Everything from boat ramps, boat rentals, boat tours, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, marinas, swimming and swimming beaches are offered at the various parks with lakes.

Everyone Has A Great Time

Waterfront Resort is a quiet gem on Bull Shoals Lake. Dale and Sarah are phenomenal hosts and treat everyone like family. The resort, cabin and dock are extremely clean. Every cabin has its own boat slip in a covered dock. Weve already booked a trip back for next year.~ Nicole H. ~So amazing to wake up every morning to a beautiful view of the lake. The cabins are clean and have everything you need for your stay. My vacation was so wonderful. What a great place to relax and unplug from the world. Perfect for families or couples. The resort owners are always ready to assist with anything you need.~ Jayme A. ~This truly is the closest, and nicest, resort on the lake. This lake is so clean and clear, any other pales in comparison! The cabins are clean, and right by the water, and are stocked with plates, silverware and pots, etc. Sitting on the screened in porches first thing in the morning is divine! So peaceful! Highly recommend!~ Kelly S. ~

Brothers Carry On Tradition At Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock

Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock

BULL SHOALS, Arkansas – Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock is a tangible example of the American dream.

As a farm boy in Illinois, John Eastwold hauled hay for a man who owned a cabin on Bull Shoals Lake and told John he could use the cabin when wanted. Eastwold fell in love with the area, and as an adult, started bringing his family down on vacation.

When the company Eastwold worked for merged with another and cut half its workforce, Eastwolds job was among those lost.

He had $15,000 and a dream of starting his own business, so he headed back to his favorite vacation spot on Bull Shoals Lake. Eastwold looked at a few venues for sale and found a marina.

His family followed him to Arkansas and on May 1, 1972, they opened Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock.

When he first bought it, we had 100 stalls, one ski boat, two pontoons and 25 fishing boats, said his son Ricky Eastwold, who owns the marina with his brother, Steve. Now we have 700 stalls, 15 pontoons, 10 ski boats, six bass boats, 13 houseboats and then various other things like wave runners, paddleboards, tubes and dive shop. My brother also runs and maintains a sales-and-repair shop. We have five mechanics, sell different boats and have a very large retail sales and repair shop.

Even though Lake of the Ozarks one of Missouris premier lakes is nearby, Jennifer Dacus and her boyfriend, Steve Krull, make the 4-and-a-half hour trek to Bull Shoals from St. Louis.

Great Boat Rentals And Service

We rented a boat from Bull Shoals Marina and the staff was friendly and knowlegeable. This place has been here for many years and they are great. It was our first stop to try to find a boat rental and it will always have our business.

Our family of 6 just got back from a full week on the 60′ house boat. The lake was beautiful. The water was warm and calm. The weather was perfect. The boat itself was big but a little beat up . I can’t say that the staff was rude but I can’t say that they were courteous either. For example, the generator went out on the boat one night . Took the boat back to the dock the next day. They had it fixed in 5 minutes. Apparently it was “an extremely common problem”. We were happy to have it fixed so quickly but it bothered me that if they knew there was a good chance this would happen why didn’t they tell me up front and show me how to fix it? It would have saved us 30 minutes of fuel getting back to the dock and a crap nights sleep. I probably even would have been satisfied with a “Hey that sucks. Were sorry for the inconvenience”. If this had been the only example of less than stellar customer service I wouldn’t even have noticed but there were lots of interactions that just added up over the course of a week. Overall we had a pretty good time but we wont be going back.
