Nice Boat Ride On Lake Ray Hubbard

Nice excursion, started on time. Took the 7:00 p.m. cruise on Lake Ray Hubbard, and it was really hot. Air conditioning inside did not cool sufficiently, but after the sun subsided a bit, went on top and got a little cooling from the wind. Music was very low, which was disappointing. Loved that they allowed you to bring a cooler of drinks and snacks. Definitely needs to pump up the volume on the music during the cruise. I mean, who drinks with no music playing?

I had a nice ride on Lake Ray Hubbard with my boyfriend. The ride is about 45 minutes out and then an additional 45 minutes back to the pier. It was the 7pm sunset cruise and it wasn’t too hot & we really enjoyed it.

Beware We took the 11 o’clock ride. We’re for looking for something very romantic..Beautiful night 3/4 moon.calm waters. Boat was very lean However the music was full of F bombs..N bombs and B bombs.. We were so disgusted that we started playing on our phones to distract. Was not just us..one other rider said he was going down stairs to say something. I requested something else but they repeated a horrible song. They said it was not for kids..but it’s not for professional adults over 40 either who want to maybe dance and enjoy…

Tour Guides Add Boat At Lake Ray Hubbard

Local sailors and entrepreneurs Scott and have carried more than 40,000 people across Lake Ray Hubbard for sightseeing, parties, and other events in their sailboat, the Seawolf, from April through October each year. That success led them to build another vessel with heating and air conditioning that will operate year round.

Harbor Lights launched in early May with boarding taking place from The Harbors at Rockwall. The new boat accommodates up to 98 people and features tables and seats inside, each with a panoramic view of the lake. The upper deck is open to the sun and wind.

Events passengers may enjoy include weekend fireworks, laser light shows every night, murder mystery, and casino nights. The lasers can be programmed to spell out messages such as birthday greetings or marriage proposals.

Lake Ray Hubbard is one of the largest lakes in north Texas spanning 22,000 acres. This recreational lake is great for fishing, skiing, relaxing, and recreational boating. There are numerous parks located around the lake all of which you can find detailed information on this site. There are plenty of nice beaches, hiking and biking trails, and other outdoor activities.

Lake Ray Hubbard was impounded in 1968. The lake is located east of Dallas in Collin, Dallas, Rockwall and Kaufman counties, on the East Fork of the Trinity River. Predominant fish species include white and hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, channel and blue catfish, and white crappie. Hybrid striped bass and blue catfish have become the most abundant sport fish in the lake in the last few years.

One of the most popular attractions at the lake is Rockwall Harbor. This waterfront entertainment center has great dining, shopping, live music, movies, walkways along the harbor, beautiful sunsets, and more.

The lake was originally named Forney Lake for the nearby town of Forney, Texas. After the City of Dallas incorporated the lake, it was renamed after a living person, Ray Hubbard, who presided over the Dallas Parks and Recreation System board from 1943 to 1972.

What To Wear On A Sunset Cruise

Definitely wear your shades if you plan to take this ride. I wore a black Clearwater Mixed Material Surplice Blouse by 41 HAWTHORN and a colorful comfortable . Sandals, flip flops, canvas shoes, tennis shoes or a wooden heel are good suggestions. Stiletto heels are not recommended. Wear something light, flowy and most importantly comfortable for you to relax in.

My friend and I easily booked our tickets with DFW Boat Rides website for an affordable rate between $35 to $40 for a single adult ticket. There is an easy to read calendar of dates to choose from and to select your cruise on DFWBoatRide.com. Prices may vary for children, military, adults and/or tour dates.

The boat operators request for you to sign a waiver and they send periodic text messages prior to arrival such as traffic updates. Parking at the Rockwall Harbor District can be cumbersome. Especially during peak season. Below is a Google Map that I added to show where to park in case you cant find parking around the restaurants and shops. Use the free public parking garage or parking lots near the Cinemark. Give yourself 15 minutes for a brisk walk to the DFW Boat Ride Dock which is on the left of the Harbor Lighthouse Tower. At the boat dock, there will be a crew member awaiting to check your reservation with your identification for each passenger.

Meet The Captain And The Crew

Crew member Teresa welcomes passengers aboard, mingles and she gets people in the mood to dance. This lovely lady is a dancing jitterbug! She knows how to do the cupid shuffle to pop bollywood line dancing.

Crew member Fernando provides FREE Coke, Diet Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite, Cranberry juice, water, and cups of ice on all cruises. You may find him on the enclosed main deck.

Captain Phil launches right on schedule to your ticket departure timeso dont be late. 25 minutes prior to departure the crew will allow passengers on board to pick a bench on the top deck or ride in the enclosed main deck with tables and chairs. The Captain does his safety instructions over a PA system prior to departure which you will learn that there are more life-jackets on board than required. Smoking and vaping prohibited.

A variety of music is played during the public cruise tour on Lake Ray Hubbard for 1.5 hours and Captain Phil will offer some fun facts about our beautiful lake.

What To Bring

• Food I prefer bringing snacks and foods that are easy to eat since you might not have a table
• Drinks yes, you can bring alcohol! Scott provides water, but if you want any other type of drink, you can just bring it with you!
• Cooler/picnic basket to store your food and drinks. Dont forget utensils and napkins!
• Kids kids are allowed! However, Scotts team recommends bringing them on the family-friendly cruise, which is right before the sunset cruise.
• Jacket it gets windy!
• Sunglasses/sunscreen
• You dont need a paper copy of your reservation- Scott will just ask for the name on the reservation when you arrive

What To Wear

Dress for the weather and for the fact that youre going to be on the water.

This means two things- temperatures drop and theres wind. So no flowy dresses, ladies! And bring a jacket, just in case.

Dont worry if you forget it, though, because the boat comes fully equipped with blankets if theyre needed!

Also, be prepared to take heels off when boarding the boat for safety reasons. A lower heel is definitely more practical, especially if you stand up and there are waves rocking the boat.

Why Sailing

So how does a former mayor of Rockwall end up offering sunset cruises around the lake anyways?

Sailing had been a passion ever since he was a kid, sailing on Eagle Mountain Lake in Fort Worth.

Since then, Scott has sailed the Atlantic and the Pacific, from Bermuda to London, and pretty much everywhere in between.

He knew that when he retired he wanted to be able to sail as often as possible.

After his time as mayor, Scott actually worked as the City Commissioner, and had a big part in developing Rockwall Harbor.

In a meeting where everyone brought their ideas for the harbor to the table, Scott suggested sunset cruises around the lake.

Okay, but who would operate them? someone asked somewhat mockingly.

Scott enthusiastically said I would!! and that was that! Sail With Scott was up and running a few years later!

Sail With Scott allows him to sail, meet people, and spend time with his wife, all in the town he calls home.

And when the weather gets too cold to host Sail With Scott, hes off to the Caribbean doing private week-long boat tours.
